how long have you spent working on it?

My zelda game was made HALF WAY, which took me a year or so, and I decided to go back and remake everything from scratch. I don't regret doing it, that much, though.

It's in my hands now...I don't know what else to say.

So why don't you turn the tables on your brother and instead of him beating someone's ass, you can beat his?

Hey simpleman,
Sorry about that. That can be really really frustrating. I know firsthand. Well, take a break for a few days and maybe go back to it. You have notes on it already. You still have the ideas in your mind. It's just a matter of putting them back into your game. Maybe save up a little money and get another memory that is just yours (for your game saves). That way your brother won't make that mistake again.

Oh, and not to mention that my 1st attempt went down the crapper because of my lack in knowledge on the Max Drive (this was before I read Valk's helpful topic), so I ended up making 3 versions, with 3 being the final finished one.

The one that the max drive erased had up to dungeon 1's mid boss, but still, that WAS (as in it's no problem now) hard for me to get at.

Hint: Try, as hard as you can, even if it'll take awhile, to get your own memory card. My brothers were mad at me cuz I had 2 rpgm2 files on ALL of our memory card (and I have 4 brothers), so I went off and bought my own (used; was like 9.99 or so). 2 RPGM2 files is like, 5400 kb down the drain, so they had little to nothing left on them having files for the numerous games we had.

that's just my tip, take it or leave it.

Eh.... going on a voyage to make the 'greatest game' is bound to set for disaster. I can give you details on why (as I thought I'd do that, too).

If it's being passed down to someone else, how is it gone forever?

You're kinda giving up way to easily, which kinda says lack of motivation. Meaning, you probably woulda gave up anyway.

I mean, yeah, it was a dip**** move for your brother to delete the file, but that doesn't mean you cant just 'redo' it.

I'm sorry to hear this, Simpleman. Losing something you've worked hard for hurts, and it's doubly frustrating, I'm sure, losing it to malice rather than accident.

I'd encourage you to consider getting back to your game within a couple days. Getting past where you already were will feel good, trust me. If you're trying to make one of the best Pavilion games ever, it will no doubt take hundreds of hours. I've already spent about 40 hours on mine and I'm about 5% complete with the content (think about it: within a few hours you'll probably be further towards completion than I am! :)), and I still don't claim it's going to be one of the best ever. The reward should be in the creation, not the critiques. :)

To prevent this from happening again, get a second memory card, back up your game to that memory card every couple days, and hide the second memory card, so if your first one gets wiped or deleted or damaged, you can simply start from where you were on the second one.

Doyleman
02-20-2007, 11:54 AM
Well, with a second memory card, he wouldn't really need to worry about his brother erasing his file, as the brother SHOULD be using the first. But we all know how siblings are :lol

Usually the second time around making the game is usually better, because you can fix things or add things to your liking.

I'd give it another shot, shouldnt give up that easily:(

Do it, simple man...do it. Remake your game. When I wrote that thing that you read, and asked you if I could make my own version of your game, I was in the middle of a major sleepless/manic episode lasting from Saturday at 2 pm until Wednesday morning at 3 am. In that time, I only had 9 hours of sleep. So I was a bit delerious when I was making those posts. So I wanted to apologize to you if it seemed as if I was making fun of you or your game idea. I think you should make the game. As much as I'd like to make it myself, it's your idea, and you should follow through with it. The eyes of the Pavilion are on you now, and it would be a good thing for you to make your game. Just heed everyone's advice about spelling and grammar, and if you have questions on how to do something, post them in the help forum. We will be glad to help.

Besides, I still have four games and one teaser to make myself...and that's not even counting if I decide to enter the mag contest. :/

Good luck, simple man.

Make your game and I promise you I'll finally get that Max Drive and your game will be the first one I download, granted it doesnt take years to make:)

And I agree with Perv I dont think theres anyone here at the pav that doesn't know about your game

I kid, of course. Sorry to hear about the boneheaded thing your brother did. Working hard on something only for it to be ruined.... I sure know that feeling. Give him an Ov3rDose of knuckle sandwiches! :shakefist

A book! :)

As the blade shattered into peices. Ivan stabbed the man with a snearing face.

Ummm...that may not be the best idea, unless you've already got a proofreader all lined up. To wit:

A book! :)

As the blade shattered into pieces, Ivan stabbed the man with a sneering face.

Fixed. And I have not even touched the grammatical logic of the sentence.

It would read better as,

Ivan stabbed the sneering man as the blade shattered into pieces.

simple man, this is only the first sentence of your proposed book. I might advise you against it.

It's good to see your creative energies are flowing and you are trying to make use of them, but I think before you continue to come up with these grand plans and announce them to the world, you might want to think them through a bit first. Trust me, I know. I built hype up for two of my games that might never see the light of day. Before you talk about writing a book, you should probably try to come up with a few well-composed paragraphs using proper form. If that works, expand it into a chapter or a short story.

Not trying to shoot down your idea, simple, but you need a basic grasp of the English language if you want people to be able to comprehend, enjoy, and respect your ideas. Make some more posts, being very conscious of how you write and how it will come across. Use the Pav as a training ground for your written word. Once you begin to get positive feedback on how you write, THEN think about this book idea again. Keep on plugging away, simple man.

I always recommend Strunk & White's The Elements of Style to aspiring writers. Also, you should begin reading as if it were necessary for survival.

I remember when I wasn't working on my game at all I claimed my cousin destroyed it so no one would think I was just spouting out random ideas and not doing any work.

Not saying you're doing anything like that, but I totally did that.

well he did say he was 75% done with his game, and he only got the PS2 2-3 weeks ago...

Doyleman
02-22-2007, 11:47 PM
simple man was that far?!

JEEPERS that's fast. I pulled off a crappy ripoff in 2 weeks flat (tales of goblia), but that doesn't count as I had level design/char design etc done for me practically.

Simpleman, I don't mean to be skeptical of you, but there's something about the following quotes that just doesn't add up. I'd be obliged if you would explain the incredible dissonance between the following:

how do i make characters go away after battles?

I dont know how to do it.

i cant work on it because my brother deleted it i was 75 percent done but i cant do it

I was trying to make the greatest game on the pavilion but now my game is ruined. It was going to be epic

he only got the PS2 2-3 weeks ago

Please remember what I told you: there's no worse slap in the face around here than not respecting someone's intelligence. I don't feel particularly respected at the moment after the advice and encouragement I've given you. It's a lot easier--and a lot nicer--to come clean than to keep lying, IF you're hiding anything.

god i want to play your game so bad!!! my progress is super slow sence i can only work on my friends ps2 i get dres so i cant get it finished for a while

your a honor in my game :) that means your in the game

From January 13th, 8 days later...
yes it is because my ps2 is broken now this might be the same fourm but this is not a post its a update

From January 19th, 6 days later...
YIPEEEE I GOT A NEW PS2 its under construction again so it will be a while before its finished

He's been working on it since at least the 5th of January, but didn't get his new PS2 until the 19th, which was a little over a month ago

I thought the name was changed to Nightfall?

And if you're 75% done why havent we heard more about the story then just the first 3 minutes of it? I mean you refuse to tell us anything else because you think everything else is a spoiling for the game...

Give us some item names, place names, monster names, none of those things spoils the game, but proves to us you are working on it...and tell us about a few sidequests, since every epic story has a side quest, even if your brother did delete your data, you should be able to remember quite a few of these things, and since your game was deleted, you can tell us without the game being spoiled, since you said youre not making it anymore, but writing a book instead...

As tempting as it is to quote simple man in my sig, it's getting a little played out after Czechs did it, then simple followed suit, quoting himself (?!), and now JPS is following the trend. Everyone, PLEASE STOP!

EDIT:Although Czechs no longer seems to be quoting simple man; he's now quoting Thomas Jefferson. :D

So you're saying you made an epic in a matter of a couple of weeks?

I don't buy it, mostly because 75%, on a 'great adventure', made in a few weeks. You'd have to have NO LIFE (no school, no/little time away from PS2) to get that.
