Exerpt from the Game Manual:

Experience Points – Experiance Points (XP) can be gained in a variety of ways in DiD:W, and are outlined below.

Plot Battles – These are unavoidable battles that are meant to hasten the plot. They can be in the form of Character vs Character battles, or they can be Boss battles. The XP awarded in these situations is based upon the difficulty of the battle.

Random Battles – These are easily avoided battles set in specific areas that allow you to fight less powerful monsters in order to gain XP for those who like the Random Battle XP method vs the Exploration Method. All Random Battle areas are outlined in the game, and a list can be found in the Christopher Training Arena. Random Battle XP is based upon difficulty of battle.

Event Battles – Later in the game, you will encounter an arena-like dungeon known as the Event Temple. In the temple, you will be able to participate in several repeatable battles known as Event Battles. Before fighting any of these battles, you will be able to look at the enemies in the battle, as well as how much XP you will get from the battles.

Training Battles – Fight Takara for a set amount of XP in the Training Arena. However, she is a powerful adversary, so be wary of taking this route for XP gain until you are high-enough levels.

Puzzle XP – This type of XP is determined by the puzzles you will encounter in many of this game’s dungeons. Based upon “Right/Wrong Answers,” Puzzle XP is based upon a set XP that will decrease with each wrong answer that you will make. The set amount of XP is based upon Puzzle difficulty.
Puzzle XP Subcategories
Dungeon Puzzles – Puzzles found in local dungeons
School Puzzles – Test your knowledge of Roshan and basic school subjects, (Math, English, Ect) Found at Christopher School.
Training Quiz – Test your knowledge of the playing system through Takara at the training arena.
Side Quest (Puzzles) – Gain XP through various side quests made
Available through Roshan’s citizens.

Exploration XP – Roshan is littered with Artifacts and Items that have long been left behind by previous owners. It is up to you to be able to track down these items. Finding them rewards the seeker with XP based upon the rareness of the item. For example- If an item is on the path you have to take in a dungeon, it will yield a lower Exploration XP then something you would have to go three floors away from the dungeon exit to find. Hidden towns and dungeons also yield Exploration XP, but it is sometimes perilous to seek such treasures. Tread with caution.

I think this is the perfect game for me, you took all of my favorite preferences and put them into this game, excellent way of using battles types!

Yeah, I gotta say if this comes out the way you describe it, it will be a very well-balanced, enjoyable game for a wide range of players. Seems like a lot you have a lot of balancing work to do, though.

^_^ Thanks you guys. I know I do have alot of balancing out. I'm trying to make it to where the basic Puzzle XP gets you enough to be able to have a challenge with the Boss battles, but if you go out and fight, you will have an easier time. I'm not too sure how it will be done, so I'm just concentrating on the Puzzle and Exploration XP for now.

This does sound very nice.

I don't know what made me venture into this topic (I saw it was the new post under "Game Forums" and thought "DiD:W? What the hell does that stand for?") but I'm glad I came. I haven't even looked an RPG Maker game since RPG Maker 1, but this sounds like a WONDERFUL concept.

I really hope you can pull it off! But if you can't I gotta say... at the very least you get HUGE credit for the idea.

Sounds good Libra. Having a mix and match set up should work nicely. I like the fact that every battle gives you some Experience. Cool.

Update : Currently working on the school puzzles, which are going to be given a full XP catagory of their own. It is now going to be more of a quiz, in which you will take several "Quizzes" on things that you find while exploring Wicker and its surrounding areas. So far, I have one section of the first level Quiz completed, although the XP for it has not yet been determined.

The example is as follows - Upon Entering the schoolhouse, there are several desks with scrolls on them. When inspecting the scrolls, you find that you have to talk to the teacher(Ms. Paricia) to be able to take the quizzes.

To be able to take the first quiz, you have to read a book found somewhere in the city, which Ms. Paricia will give you an idea of where to find. Once you tell her you've read the material, she will let you take the quiz.

Each quiz will be set up in diffrent sections (so far I have a "True/False" based upon the "Yes/No" event arch) and you have the ability to do each section over or go to the next section. When you have finished the section, you can go on to complete the rest of the test. After you finish the test, it's off to ask Ms. Paricia to grade it. Here you are given two options, you can have the test graded OR you can reset it and take it all over. Once you decide to get it graded, you can check your score on the scroll, and then gain your XP. Higher quizzes will yeild higher XP, treasures, and items.

I know this seems a bit montonous, but I'm not too sure how else to do it....any ideas?
