    Working Title (9th Chronicle)

    Hey everyone,

I have been using RPG Maker Software since the release of RPG Maker 2. I own all of them now and I have enjoy making games with them. The one I am working on right now is title 9th Chronicle. The game begins with a random character selection from the nine main characters. The remaining eight characters will be encountered later in the game as either a boss or a friend depending on what you do. It is still a working title and I have a lot more to do on it. I will post more about it later as it develops.

Sounds good so far...but why did it take you so long to discover this place?

A lot of us are Vollis, I'm actually writing a novel on the game I'm creating first though to help out with game creation.

also I've been making games since RPGM1's release, I only happened to stumble upon this place while trying to find more info about RPGM3

Anyways the game sounds very good Vollis and not cliche to me, I like having choices on who to make the party members

Here I come Pav, like the Kool-Aid man barging into a funeral! Oh yeah!

The idea is a good one, Vollis. If you want better feedback or advice, you're going to need to be a bit more detailed.

I like that idea. Gives the game some replay value because you'll want to go back to see how some people you fought the first time through would be as friends and vice versa. Not many RM games have good replay value. But that means the game has to be good enough for people to want to play more than once. You've got your work cut out for you.

              Re: Working Title (9th Chronicle)

I have changed the game some and am liking it so far. The characters have been increased to 14 with a bonus secret character. Each character will have their own quest to recover the ten legendary stones of the elements. Some of the characters include a dragon, a huntress, a pirate captain, and an amazon warrior. I may not have the character select random, but instead have the game ask you a bunch of questions to determined your character. I would be happy on any advice on how to make this work well. Some of the characters have the able to use magic and I have them where they specialize in one element. Like the hero character (no names, they are supplied by the player.) controls a vast array of fire magic once he gets to a high enough level.
I am using RPG Maker 2 for this task because I really like the freedom allow with the software. The only problem with this is that I will try sometimes to make stuff overly complexed. This I am trying to overcome. I have kept the title of the 9th chronicle. I am going to make the 9th chronicle an in-game item that tells the history and knowledge of the stones. More to come.

I would avoid the ten legendary stones. With all the work you're putting into this, don't succumb to that kind of a cliche.

Also I'm interested to see how you're going to have 14 variations of the game with the limited amount of memory you'll be facing, if you've never made a game using RPGM3 I advise you to look at Obrights Itemised data usage list to get a sense on what you'll be facing concerning memory consumption.

I also second Hito's comment, as collecting items can get tiresome after a while

                  EDIT TO ADD
Pagerron pointed out that you are using RPGM2, I mistook the 2 for a 3, so don't pay any attention to what I just said

So what kind of memory limitations does 2 have?

I didn't work that heavily with 2(i nearly stroked out trying to make a custom set of swords :P ), but from what i've heard it has a considerably higher mem limit. Infact i've heard that you have to really try to run out.

Also in your original post you said you'll have 9 characters to choose from, I'm assuming the name (9th chronicle) comes from the characters you can choose, since you up'ed it to 14 will it become the 14th chronicle? or will you keep your original game name?

                        Re: Working Title (9th Chronicle)

I am going to keep the name.
To anyone wonder about memory, I have that figured out. I plan to use to save files to make this game. When you begin the first one you will be given a random character. At the start of the second one I may have it ask a question like-"What class was your character?" An then the game will do something (For now my secret) and then you shall finish the quest.

I need help in making the equipment so if anyone wants to suggest names I am good with that.
Each character will have a different weapon type. I have most of the weapon types figured out except for the type the slime is going to use. I mean I want this wierd character to have a weapon type that fits it's wierd nature.

Let me be the firs...wait...third...person to tell you that the ability to choose the main hero ROCKS. Hard. Having the others appear as NPC's just makes it even cooler, and having their attitude toward you be determined by your actions and/or choices takes it even further, and that sounds like it will pull players into the story in an awesome way.

Did you ever play SaGa Frontier? Talk about replay value...and it didn't even have 11 characters...not even 9!

I have a few RPG strategy guides(FFVIII, FF Chronicles, and both KH's) with tons of weapons names, items, armor, etc... you can alter slightly or use, if you PM me your email address I'll scan them all and send them your way, I dont want to post them here because of the file sizes.

Same goes for anyone else who would like these scans, if interest is great enough I'll just make a topic in RPG General and type out all of the weapon names, items, etc...

I know personally the names are one of the hardest to do in a game

It got so bad for me that I actually ended up using "Super Bastard Sword" for one of the weapons used in my Dragon Fantasy project.

Perhaps I should not have emphasized so much on making a lot of weapons
