    Ideas on new forum topics

I think it would be a good idea to add a new forum where players can post screenshots of the games they're making. Be a good place to see how the graphics of the RPG you're making stack up against the competetion.

RPGM General or RPGM Workshop are for stuff like that.

I hang out in Workshop a lot (i need a lot of help) and i haven't see any forum like that yet. Could you tell me which thread in workshop has them so i could give them a look?

Most people don't post screenshots of their games because for one thing, all RPG Maker 3 games look exactly the same, and because to take a "screen shot" you have to actually take out a camera and snap a pic of the screen, and then either get it developed onto a CD and put it on the computer, then host it on photobucket.com or somthing and put it on here, or use a digital camera, host it on photobucket.com, and then put it on here.

So in short, it's a hassle to put of screenshots, and it's not really needed.

Well i don't understand the technology on how to do it, but hassle or not it'd be worth it for me, because i'd like to look at them. I'm also talking more about RPG maker 2 anyway - which is the one i play and the way games look on that one can differ quite a bit because the game i started making a long time ago doesn't resemble in the least the game it is now.

In short: It may not be "needed", but i'd still like to see one, as it would quickly become my second favorite forum, right under the help forums.

I see, I just assumed you were using RPG Maker 3, same goes for RPG Maker 2 though, all games look pretty much the same, although it is possible to make modifications to the graphics engine, but nothing to major.

But if there was a forum for this, people wouldn't use it, it's simply not easy enough to upload pictures for others to view, like I mentioned before, taking a picture of the screen can come out crappy and it's a waste of time to have to transfer it over to the computer, host it on photobucket.com, and then post it here.

If people really want to show pictures of their games, they can do it, and that's what the workshop or private game forums are for.

EDIT: I just found this: http://www.pavilionboards.com/forum/...ead.php?t=8036, about halfway down the thread is a picture of Jamos's screen, see how fuzzy it is? That's why it doesn't really work very well to take pictures.

Well that's why you get a TVCard . If you want to see some of mine I have them hosted on my site for my game I'm working on slowly (http://www.thetruecoolness.com/NewSite/RPGMaker2.html), but most people here do not have a TV Card (which is the easier way to take pictures of you game as it plays through your computer so you can just get a direct screen shot, with no glare or grainess). Of course most people just get one of us with a TV Card to do it for them, but that requires them to have a MaxDrive. Eventually on the front page there will be screenshots, but I've been busy on working on other things so I was only able to get screen shots for half the full games so far. But I'm going to work on getting more soon (probably before the end of the month).

So if I get time I'll start doing screenshots for demos too, but I also have other things I work on. So while it's a great idea not everyone has the capability to do so. If your interested in seeing RPGM2 vfx screenshots go take a look at the VFX thread over at Doans. But here you should look in the game forums and look at peoples threads about there games, that's really where the screenshots should go.

Ah, thank you, I wasn't aware a product like that existed, that's very helpful.

Yeah I'll see if I can't scrounge up a topic about it, since I know many have inquired about it in the past, but basically look here.

                    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...ice=&maxPrice=

the best are normally Leadtek and Hauppauge, but I know some people who have had success with the USB KWorld one.

Well I didn't see any topics that useful on it, but basically it makes your computer like a TV. The color range doesn't seem to quite match up, but it usually looks really good, especially with an SVideo connection.

If you plan on doing a lot of recording I would recommend a hardware encoding one, as you can do things on your on computer while recording, but they're also twice as much (around $100). I personally have the Winfast PVR2000, and though it's not completely bug free, it is the best one I've had.

thanks for the link truecoolness, i'll check in on it from time to time to see when you put your maps up and stuff. Screen shots seem pretty cool, though i'd like to see some of your towns and stuff if you could put those on your site. Anyway, this is off topic so i should probably take it somewhere else - but your plot had a cool foundation to it. I really love those stories that deal in the balance of good and evil, chaos and order, one needs the other to make each worthwhile. I really eat up that kind of stuff. And since putting up screen shots on the site seems so techno i'll drop the idea - for now atleast Once i get my ps2 back i'll just download some demos and be content with that.
