Bah. How anybody can draw with a mouse is beyond me.
Granted, this was drawn using paint, and I really didn't try too hard. But still, the lines aren't nearly smooth enough. I'll settle for paper and a scanner any day.
"What if like...there was an exact copy of you somewhere, except they're the opposite gender, like you guys could literally have a freaky friday moment and nothing would change. Imagine the best friendship that could be found there."
Tablets are kinda expensive, though, from what I understand. Not to mention it sounds akward, drawing on the tablet and having the image appear onscreen instead of the tablet. Sounds a bit difficult to remember where on the tablet to draw when you want to connect a line at a certain spot.
You know, I wonder how well I'd be able to redraw that on paper. (Better than this attempt, that's for sure.) Hmm... *runs off to draw*

Should I do the whole thing on paper, or should I simply do the outlines and refine it on the computer? All I have to do this are the paper, a pencil, a black ink pen, colored pencils (just 12 colors, as I wanted to wait before going into greater color detail), and the basic paint program. I've used those colored pencils before, but I'm not sure how much detail I could add with them; haven't tried adding real detail except once with a regular pencil sketch.

I don't know what would work better for you, but if you're stuck using paint, you might as well do everything by hand.
If you're not sure on the colored pencils, maybe practice with them on another drawing or sketch and see how that turns out. If you haven't used them for coloring and shading before, the results might not be what you want at first. Getting decent colors with pencils takes a lot of effort, but they can look incredible if you work on it.
Yes, colored pencils have got to be my favorite coloring method (not to say that I use em, just from what I see, I have a really awesome Harley Quinn drawing that's in colored pencil...I gotta buy a set.). And drawing with the mouse is indeed painstaking and horribly tedious, but the best experience I have had comes from treating it like any old drawing at first, start with a framework of some sort (even a deep black stick figure would work since you can just go over it with anything on a computer), then I work my way up from the bottom of the piece to the top.
Unfortunatly, that's only because most of the stuff I've made on the computer are nothing more than either the size of a fighting game sprite or no more bigger than an AIM icon so it's quite possible I'm thinking with a totally different mindset.
PS: For smooth lines, using a higher resolution could work, however you'll have many more pixels to fill!
I don't mean smooth like that, I mean I couldn't create smooth curves or lines no matter what the screen resolution.
I don't recall ever doing a framework. I'm sure I've done it, but not in recent memory. I just draw the outlines and fill in the rest.
I'll go ahead and use the colored pencils. It'll take a bit of work trying to not make it look messy, but I'll try.

Okay, I finished the drawing. Soon as we figure out how to work this scanner (tomorrow; not enough time today), I'll post it.
...Heh, I'm half-tempted to turn this into a Crappy Paint Drawings topic.

No, you just need have good hand eye coordination. It's really much better than a mouse. (though I use a mouse when I'm GENERATING graphics. like buttons and stuff)
