I've never played a MMORPG. There, I admit it.
I played Diablo and Diablo II with a bunch of Pavilionites back in the day, and loved every minute of it. That was about all I could take. I tend to get obsessive-compulsive about RPGs, to the point where I'll just sit down and play most of them through in two or three sittings, literally not sleeping or eating or anything until I'm done with them. I have hardly any spare time these days, so I've been trying to play action games and other games that I can breeze through in a short amount of time. I've always kind of skipped the MMORPG thing, because while I'm really interested in trying it, I have this feeling that it would DEVOUR MY SOUL.
Then I had this weird urge to play, like, World of Warcraft or Final Fantasy XI today. I don't know where it came from, but it won't go away.
So tell me some stories about it. Which of those two do you prefer, or is there another one that's even better? Has anyone had their lives completely sucked away by them? Do you regret it, or was it awesome? Better yet, has anyone here managed to play one and still function as a normal human being with some sort of active social life? Should I run like hell, or should I give in and try one?

But when play becomes work, it's no longer fun.
