Ys for the love of god................

This world never fails to disappoint me in one way or another..
Not one ****ing thread do I see on the new Ys 6 game in the video game section,I swear I have given up all hope for you people.
But I can't really blame you the Ys series has never had the recognition it deserved in this country, except for Ys 3 and that is not a good representaion of the series at all....
I have enjoyed it from the Master System to the Turbo Duo,I was even able to patch the Japanese version of Ys 4 into English last week.
Back when the Turbo Grafx was the first system to have a cd rom attachment I ****ing bugged my parents for 5 months to get me one for Christmas, they broke down and made gaming history for me.
Ys book 1 and 2 blew the pants of anything that had been seen or heard in a rpg console game at that time, I still have the EGM where they gave it a 10/10
People at school asked me for "tapes" of the music as it was so stellar.
For a history of this amazing series here is a great page.
Hey look it's not Final Fantasy or Zelda!
I am not here selling this series but I think this damn game needs some recognition.

I've had the demo from OPM for a few months. I'll play it for you.

Re: Ys for the love of god................

Honestly, I've never played a Ys game in my life, but not for lack of trying.
I never saw it available for master system but my friend Sam had the super nes Ys III.

But far and away the coolest is the Transform spell, which turns Adol into a happy little red haired demon. Not only are you invincible to monsters, but you can actually converse with them, discovering clues and their true feelings about being a bad guy in a video game. You even use it as a fair bit of trickery, invading enemy compounds, while all of the guards chatter about some intruder.

      Love this idea.

The Sega Master System game was the first to come out in America, under the title Ys: The Vanished Omens
Seems like all the RPGs for master system were difficult to obtain/super expensive. Lousy fanboys *shakes fist*

The SNES version has a similar intro to the Genesis version, but quite a bit condensed, with entirely different artwork and some totally unnecessary Mode 7. It also offers the cleanest graphics of the three. Unfortunately, the music ends up pretty lousy during the conversion process, with totally abrasive sound samples - considering the SNES' awesome sound chip, this is also a mystery. The enemies are also nasty difficult, making this version a bit more irritating. It is also the only version to keep the original Japanese names intact.
One of my friends in high school was big into RPGs (he recommended Crono Trigger to me) and he had Ys III. While everyone seems to hate on it, he said he really enjoyed it. I remember seeing him play it one afternoon, and I thought it looked cool. I wanted to borrow it, but before I could, he moved out of his house (college) and I think his folks sold all his games and systems.

I would like to hear the game's music, since it's supposed to be stellar, but I don't have whatever account I need to access those songs.

Let me know if you would be able to send me anything...

Also, once I'm not poor, I'll pick up Ys 6 for PS2, I swear. If you already have it, what's the verdict? Would someone fairly new to the series enjoy it?

        Is it out?

I really wanted to play the Ys series, but I could never find a single game.

I'll defintally pick it up when I get the time (RPGMaker game interfering for most of my time)

          super nes Ys III
I played it, and goddamn was it horrible. What the hell is up with your maximum level only being 16, and having a maximum of 255 HP and ring points? And the whole 65536 max exp thing. All the obsessions with 2s in this game, and they didn't even bother to hide it since it was the basis of the program. Talk about sloppy. Not only that, but there was this one area where you could always have your sword thrusting upwards on rapid fire and watch all these flying monsters dive at you to their death.

I rented this once when I was like 11, and I figured all this out in line the 3 hours I played it. It was so awful, when I got to the castle and what appeared to be the final dungeon, I just turned it off and said screw it.

Damn did that suck. It was trite, cliched, boring, and represented most of everything I hated in RPGs.

Not as bad as Sorcerer's Kingdom for the Sega Genesis though, which I finished. *shudder*

Although, Nixon is right. That music was totally killer.

I have a feeling that I wouldn't enjoy the other games, not because of my experience with the only one I played, but the setting/characters/interface/towns/dungeons look to be a big turnoff to me. It reminds me a lot of Zelda, and that got old really fast for me with its repetitiveness(Zelda I was cool, II I enjoyed a hell of a lot, but once Link to the Past came, yuck from there on out.). I know games like Ys and Zelda were original works and everyone copied them, but to see them repeat themselves over and over is just recycling the same cliches, even if these games invented these cliches and had these cliches as once original since no one did it before.

I might eventualy give some of them a try. Maybe.

I think noone mentioned it to prevent getting people's hopes up for a game with no chance of making it here.

YsIII was the blacksheep, I hear. Going platformer was bad mojo, but I still kinda enjoyed it.

I own Y's I & II on the Turbo Grafx CD. Very good RPG's. I was very disappointed that Y's III on SNES was so bad in comparison to the excellent begining of the series. Y's 6 looks pretty good, but that giant flying boss in the demo seems impossible to kill. Hopefully in the real game he isn't that tough.

The Crown of Order demo is here.

Yeah Nixon the changing into a monster deal was a pretty cool one.
Here is the only music tracks I could dig up from Online from Y's 4
Here's my favs from Ys 4 ,though these are great music pieces Book 1 and 2 still have it beat.
                  Inside lava cave
                  Boss music
                  Final boss

Also Vonwet Ys 6 is out for PS2, Konami brought it out recently.
And yeah Naruto play the demo I have never tried it as I picked up the full game day 1,it was funny as I know what they are like in EB so I took up the strategy guide and said "I want this game",they had to search for ages to find a copy in the back and I had to listen to this guy in front of me pre order a copy of Mushai Legend, that's when I knew life was twisted.
And yeah I know Ys 3 sucks that's why I typed it in the beginning of this thread.
It's funny I knew most people would post about that game
And hey who are you Dungeon Warden? you live in NS and have Y's I & II on the Turbo Grafx CD? there is hope for NS after all!

I saw it in stores and it looked intriguing but I wanted to hear how it was at first. Lots of games can look completely awesome but play like poo.

There's one coming out on the PSP so I might at least rent it for nostalgia's sake.

I played the demo and it was pretty fun, and REALLY smooth, I liked it way better than the Musashi 2 demo. There wasn't a whole lot to the demo, but the boss fights in the intro clip look so damn cool. I like the idea between switching swords, but in the demo, the difference between the swords wasn't so apparent aside from their special attacks, which didn't seem like enough.

I rilly rilly wanna give the full version a shot.

Those songs are pretty good. The Final Boss theme sounds like something from a cheap 80s porno, which is a good thing.
