Dash Handsome - review by Split Infinity
(Outline-Adventure games) Story /10 Characters/10 Battles/10 Overall entertainment/30 Puzzles/Dungeons /40 Story - 5/10 The story appealed to me at first. However, it just disappeared into the background after the first 5 minutes. It wasn't brought back up until the end of the game. I particularly like the criminal old-movie-like style. Characters 6/10 There were really only four characters that were anything beyond flat. And of those, only two had much of a personality. Battles 7/10 It's a nicely done CBS. The attack animations were nicely done and I found myself laughing at a few of them . However, the Rock-Paper-Scissors style can be VERY annoying. Battles of (pure) chance don't have much going for them, excluding possibly in a gambler's collection. Overall Entertainment 25/30 The entire item system was very, very well done. Not knowing what to do with an item was aggrivating at times, but using an item and not seeing a little stat box come up was extremely satisfying . The events flowed smoothly and I found myself wanting to keep playing despite the lack of likable characters, which is rare for me to do. The battles were not really entertaining, but I loved the dungeons and puzzles. Puzzles/Dungeons 38/40 The dungeons had a refreshingly unique and attractive appearance. Puzzles required thinking but weren't the kind of puzzle with which you had to spend hours meditating. Very nicely done. Overall - 81/100 Dash Handsome has a lot of things going for it that are needed in an adventure game. The dungeons pull you into their unique atmosphere. Puzzles are entertaining and don't cause agitation. Events flowed smoothly and I found myself laughing quite a few times. Even though the game has a nice plot backdrop, it never really manifests itself except in the very beginning and very end. Characters were boring and 2D, with Dash being the only character I actually liked. As for the battles... I personally disliked the style of battle, but if you're into rock/paper/scissors, then it's all for you. Dash Handsome is great for what it is, an adventure game. If you had spent more time with character and plot development, or leaned more towards the humorous side, it could have been a lot better. You made it a comedy, and it is funny, but you should either have that comedy side show more, or actually develop on what I feel is a good plot. All in all, a very good job. |
