    Mini Games

I'm thinking about giving my main character a video game system in-game.
Here's a list of games he will play:

    Zombie Slayer(Castlevania clone)
    Elf Quest(Zelda clone)

How do I make such a thing?

P.S. The list will be updated.
Addam Sessler & Morgan Webb should be sent to the Abyss for hating dungeon crawlers. It's thanks to
dungeon crawlers that we have RPGs.

Doing this will be very difficult and time consuming. If you are willing to do the work then I suggest looking at http://www.pavilionboards.com/forum/...ead.php?t=3743. It should help you get started. If you have questions I would suggest asking Neonash7777.... sorry Nash.

        Come on now. -_-

Start with something simple, like Pacman or RPS(Rock Paper Scissors).

Pacman wouldn't be as easy to make as you would think. You would have to program the ghosts to actually hurt pacman when THEY touch him (something like that anyway.) And all of those marble things would require alot of events, which would take up a good amount of room. Then there is adjusting the difficulty after advancing each level.

            Re: Mini Games

It IS easy to make. Now an arcade perfect version, that's a different story, but even then it's not that hard to make.

              Re: Mini Games

I didn't mean it was a hard thing to do. It just depends on one's level of skill with RPGM2. I managed to make something similar to pacman with not to much effort. I'm not too sure of Saint Zomb-E's level of skill with RPGM2. So I don't know if it would be easy for him or not.

                  Re: Mini Games

                  Pac Man is tricky.

I tried a Pseudo Pac Man mini game for Videogamedrome and wound up breaking the whole system so badly I had to start over on the mini game! I never did start over either...

But I made a nice Pseudo Pac Man!

                  Peace.

                  MOO!

                    Re: Mini Games

I would just keep in mind that "mini-games" like that basically become full games within a game, and are not really mini. They will still as much work as your main game to come up with, mainly because you are trying to get RPGMaker 2 to do something it was not really "designed" for. So while action type games and even Tetris are possible with RPGMaker, don't expect them to be easy to do as they will require lots of work and planning, and knowing RPGMaker 2 basically inside out so you know it's limitation and how to exploit them.

So the short answer is yes this is possible. The longer answer being, be careful starting with this kind of thinking as many of these mini-games will require the effort of a full game. So if you want to finish your game work on it first then go back and add in mini-games, otherwise you will get sidetracked with these games and might lose your initial vision. So beware of feature creep, it will make your game take much longer than expected to get released, trust me I know.

So I suggest trying to make one of these mini-games first as it's own game, this way you will get good experience with RPGM2 and feel good about completing a full game as opposed to a "mini-game". Or just start working on your main project and add these in later. Of course this is up to you as you will do what you want, but just be wary of adding in things like this as they can end up being a drain on your motivation for your main game. These will not be easy by any stretch of the imagination, even if you are already good they will still take a while to get working right.

Now this is not to discourage you from doing them, just enlightening you to the amount of work that is involved in making a mini-game. They do serve as fairly good learning tools on how to learn RPGM2, however, but it's normally better to start a bit smaller so you'll complete it, and then tackle bigger things.

In other words, the only minigame you'll have in your main game is RPS. Easy and fun.

                        Re: Mini Games

i tried to make a pacman game once. it sucked tho. i made the world and everything. i had the four different ghosts and pacman was the thief model with just a yellow head and a black body. i got the ghosts to move with:
                        action script:
                        events>control>start>on
                        events>event action>random>15f

                        content script:
                        text: screen display: game over!!!
                        party>teleport>warp>home
i applied the script to touch

the only problem with this is that they wouldn't go through the pacman bead things. so every time i wanted them to move, i'd have to clear out the beads.
i have no idea how to get past that problem

                        for the beads I used:

                        content script:
                        data>variable: "pacman bead"="pacman bead"+1
                        event>control> temporary removal

                        content script:
                        script branch>condition>variableacman bead=54
                        text: screen display: "You Win!!!"
                        party>teleport>warp>home
                        script: condition end
(i applied this script off screen and auto)

yep, that's my sorry noob excuse for pacman

EDIT: huh? where that tongue smiley is, that's supposed to be a "P" i don't know why it isnt

                          Re: Mini Games

It's because you typed : followed by P, which happens to be the emote code for producing the evil tongue smiley. A similar problem happens on some message boards when you create a list made up of 1), 2), and so forth, and 8) happens to be a smiley wearing some shades.

                          Apparently that doesn't happen here.
