    Re: A newbe guide?

Well my trial has currently ended and I don't feel like spending $60 at the moment (focusing on other games first), but I'll answer what I can.

Go ahead and keep using RMXP if you want. It might take a little work finding out what each option does, but it's well worth it in the long run. Though there's nothing wrong with getting some of the other RPGMs as well. I'm focusing on two of them right now.

If I recall, you choose your starting party in the System tab in the Database. To the left it'll show 4 slots, likely with a party member in each. Click on the slots to choose which party members to have, and delete a slot if you don't want it occupied.

Changing the message window is also under the System tab. Though, you're only given one option for the message window. You'll have to either find one somewhere online or make your own.

I'll give you one little bit of advice.

Don't worry about scripting. To begin with, everything that's default in the scripts will work for you. Scripts change or add to the default settings of the basis of the game. When you learn events and mapmaking, make yourself a dumb, quick game. After you finish making that, try changing different things within the events. some help for all of what you ask can be found at rmxp.net
