Feel like an opinion (Those who loathe Pokemon; save your criticism)

I recently felt like playing Pokemon FireRed to complete my Pokedex spanning my other games (save the promo Pokemon I've been rather unlucky with finding). Normally, I think very carefully about my team and it's movesets. However, I'm rather whimsy at the mo, and would like a few opinions on what to add to fill the last two vacancies.

My (future) roster currently has Blastoise, Zapdos, Steelix and Hariyama. What do you guys think I should add?

Ridiculers need not apply. Or else... Uhh..

I always go with an evee team. Have every time of evee.

But if you want to keep the rest, then I would go with a psychic pokemon.

Eh, I haven't had much interest in the trading aspect since I got tired of how Nintendo was creating Pokemon one could only get through promotions and contests (darn it, I was there when they were giving away Celebi at Six Flags, but I DIDN'T BRING MY CRYSTAL VERSION), so I only wind up using the Pokemon found in that specific version.

Normally, I don't care much about having the strongest team, either. For one, the game isn't as challenging as real people, and I don't play with real people (here's hoping we someday get a Pokemon Online). Anyway, I usually just go with the Pokemon I come across that I like. My final team when I played Fire Red was Arcanine, Pidgeot, Kangaskhan, Raichu, Lapras, and Primape (didn't like that one too much, but I needed one to use Strength).

My recommendation is simply to create a balanced team. There's got to be some good formation that's strong both offensively and defensively. If someone throws in a Pokemon that yours is weak against, gotta have one to throw in that isn't (and hopefully is strong against). A Pokemon that's capable of learning odd attacks (like having a Raticate with Hydro Pump, dunno if that's possible) is good to have, as long as the Pokemon can use those odd attacks well. Obviously, that Raticate isn't going to do a good job with Hydro Pump with that low special attack it has. But it'll still surprise that Golem!

Uhh, heh, actually, I've had my fair share of PvP battles and am capable of setting up a tourney-worthy team. I just wanna see what you peoples' suggestions will yield, as no other method'll convince me to use Pokemon I don't normally use.

When I played the first ones, I used to like using Ekans and Arbok exclusively. No one could defeat them. They were my loyal attack snakeys.

I use a Blastose and Sycther.

My bro and I got Green/Red and Colloseum.

The wireless adaptor did little for pokemon execpt let you chat like 5-10 feet away from your friends.

The new editions of Poke mon better have a beefed and better up battle system.
It's the same since the original Game Boy.

I suggest a Dragonite or Mewtwo if you can get them. Dragonite is dragon, strength, and a little bit of Pyschic power. Plus it can learn a few Water Moves. It's just an all around well balanced Pokemon. And Mewtwo? Well hell, have you seen it in action? X.x If you can't get Mewtwo, another good Pyschic is the Psychic form of Evee.

I haven't played a pokemon game since we imported silver and gold. But I remember kicking Dave's ass with a high level Wigglytuff and a Chancey.

Come to think of it, Missingno was a fun Pokemon to play with from time to time. Too bad they didn't decide to turn that thing into a real Pokemon.

                    Missingno
                    No. ?
                    Glitch Pokemon
                    Hight: Varies
                    Weight: 0 lbs

This Pokemon's true origins are unknown. It is thought to have been accidentally created when Porygon was being made.

The best part was, it could give you a nearly infinate amount of whatever item is in a certain position of your item list. Too bad it scrambled the data stored for winning at the Pokemon League.

It was actually just a glitch. On my copy of Red, I can get lvl 300 Snorlaxs to show up when I do the missingno. glitch.

I can capture and use them too.

I've pretty much decided on my final team for FireRed after doing a bit of switching 'round n' such.

                        Blastoise@Leftovers
                        Torrent
                        -Rapid Spin/Rest
                        -Surf
                        -Ice Beam
                        -Roar

The usual (for the most part) utility Blastoise. Nice range for dealing with spikers (If I keep RS. Skarmbliss will likely still be a hassle) and passers.

                        Zapdos@Leftovers
                        Pressure
                        -Thunderbolt
                        -Drill Peck
                        -TWave
                        -HP (?)/Substitute

It's been ages since I've used this guy. It's type is l33t, plus it's no slouch in the attack department. I'll try getting HP Grass or something of that effect.

                        Forretress@Leftovers
                        Sturdy
                        -Earthquake
                        -Rapid Spin
                        -Spikes
                        -Zap Cannon/Light Screen/Explosion

Versatility. This guy's one hell of a Spiker. It was definitely worth kicking Steelix off the island. Only weakness is fire (albeit 4X), but it's no physical weaknesses and plenty of resistances. I luff j00.

                        Hariyama@Leftovers
                        Thick Fat
                        -Cross Chop
                        -Knock Off
                        -Shadowball/Toxic
                        -Counter

Omgliekt3h sum0!11!! Seriously, though. Hariyama not only looks awesome (he's FAT), he is awesome. This guy's got plenty of stamina, and l33t attack to boot. Knock Off can totally screw over battle strategies.

                        Banette@Leftovers
                        Insomnia
                        -Shadowball
                        -Substitute
                        -WoW
                        -HP(Fighting)/Skill Swap

Ghost types are mucho better nowadays. This thing's no exception. Unlike Gengar, which happens to have a low Attack stat compared to it's Sp.Att, this guy's got physical power. Plus, it also has the best status-inflicting technique, in my opinion, Will-o-Wisp, which automatically burns the opposition. And we all know (Ok, perhaps not) that once a Pokemon's burned, it's attack power plummets. Great for Skarmbliss. Skill Swap is a possibility for having some fun with Pokemon that depend on Rest, by swapping the opponent's trait with this guy's Insomnia, preventing Rest completely, and watching it whither away. Heheheheheh.

Well, I've actually hit a bit of a road block. I'm torn between these two Pokemon for the 6th slot:

Porygon2@Leftovers (Gluttons, all of them... *sob*)
                        Trace
                        -Thunderbolt
                        -Ice Beam
                        -Toxic
                        -Recover

Straight to the point. Porygon2 is a wacky one to use, what with it's trait, Trace, which allows it to copy the opponent's trait. Hella fun. Trapping trappers, canceling out Pure Power (Which doubles attack. Evil, I know), or just goofing about. This guy's crazy. It uses Tbolt and IB very well. It just... works.

                        AND...

                        Dunsparce@Wait for it...... Leftovers
                        Serene Grace
                        -Body Slam
                        -Headbutt
                        -Ancient Power
                        -Counter/Ice Beam

Look at this guy. Take a good look at this guy. Notice something? It's one of the deadliest Pokemon in today's metagame. Yes, this guy. This guy's trait, Serene Grace, doubles the chances of a special effect happening as a result of an attack. That means Headbutt has a 60% chance of makingthe opponent flinch, Body Slam has a 60% of paralyzing the opponent, Ancient Power has a 20% chance of increasing all of it's stats, etc. Yes, this guy. It also has excellent stamina, and is capable of screwing up entire teams alone.

                        Yes, this guy.

What do you guys think I should go with?

Porygon2 Vs. Dunsparce. Battle to the death. BEGIN!

Ah, in case some of you don't know some of the aformentioned, here's a little clarification:

Foretress, Hariyama and Banette, respectively. I trust you already know what Blastoise and Zapdos look like.

EDIT: Is this fine with you, Paul, or should I remove the images?

I never would've thought of Dunsparse as a good Pokemon. I mean, just look at the thing. But I guess the addition of traits in the GBA games kinda helped. If only there were a way to change its trait instead of having to catch more than one of a type of Pokemon in hopes that it'll have the right trait.

This topic sure is making me re-interested in Pokemon. The only version I have right now is Crystal (favorite version), so I don't get to have the traits, but maybe it'll still be fun.

It's just too bad Pokemon Collesium doesn't have LAN support, or else I'd grab a Broadband adaptor and grab that one program I've heard about that turns LAN gaming into online gaming.

You do realize that there are a few established Online Pokebattle programs floating around, right? They don't use the game, though.
