    Official Minecraft Thread

It's gone too long where someone hasn't made a thread for this so I'll begin by introducing what it is for those who had their heads buried in the proverbial internet sand.

    Minecraft

    What is it?

It's essentially a pure sandbox game right now. Think Legos with killer creeps, randomly generated terrain, a full-on crafting system, minecart rollercoasters, and multiplayer support. Planned updates will introduce new modes of play.

How much does the full game cost?

20 pounds once it's done. 9.95 pounds now during alpha, roughly $15.
If you pay now, you get the game forever.

    What's new?

    http://minecraft.net/boo/

    - Underground hell that you teleport to with demon portals!
    - Fixed multiplayer issues
    - New minerals
    - New creeps
    - Fishing!

    How do I play multiplayer?

The free java client has a basic building sandbox game you can connect to via the website. There was a pavilion server at one point that Crunk hosted.

The alpha version requires that you purchase the game and have the IP of the server you want to join. Here's a list of a few servers for alpha:

Someone here tried hosting their own alpha server. If we want to do that again I'll put the IP address here.

    Here's some other useful tools/links:

    ...and that's why.

    Re: Official Minecraft Thread

I've been debating buying this game for like two months now.

I just end up playing the free version all the time. I was actually considering making a thread like this.

Whats the main differences between the free version and the alpha version?

Alpha version has crafting, larger terrain (250 blocks deep), randomly generated caves, torches for lighting, minecarts, rafts, fishing, and portals to hell.
      ...and that's why.

You know what's the coolest thing to do in Minecraft that I've learned.

First go underwater and make make a dome shape of wood. Then put glass around it. Burrow underneath it, and take all the wood out. And it will be air underneath the glass. And it will be like an underwater dome.

        ****s pretty cool.

Online play is mostly just for building stuff.

And watch griefers make dynamite and blow things up.

I really keep debating wether i want to get this. I've already got enough games, but to have a game with no real end to it, and i can do ANYTHING with the world...i wouldnt know what to do with it.

Unfortunately, that might be too much for me, as much as i really want to play this.

So I got the full version around 5. And I can sadly but honestly say my whole 5-12 have been put into this game.

              Why is it so fun?

I don't know. But if your time is very important to you, I'd recommend not getting it. It's easy to lose time in it.

This is what starting is like:

Okay, I'll burrow into this rock using the pickaxe I made. Hmm, whats this black stuff. oh sweet torches... 60 minutes later, a tunnel system has been made. 2 or 3 hours later the tunnel system comes out into a tower overlooking a lake, the tower is now my house. Put some doors on it. Cool ****... Die. Can't get back to the house if it's dark out. ****. Build a house right on top the spawn point. Mine underground. Make an underwater house. Make a huge tunnel system connecting them all together. Have enough rocks to build a giant ****ing tower. WILL IT EVER END?

I restarted for the update and made a simple treehouse. Working on having all the necessities available there before I move on, like an above-ground farm, fountain, magma dump, safe house (in case, I dunno, a Ghast escapes from Hell), and modest storage space.

Soon as that's done I'm going to build up a small fortune of diamonds, then work my way to creating a Gate.

Considering Ghasts shoot fire, I'm taking an awful risk by storing all my possessions up in trees. oooooo wellllllll
                ...and that's why.

I hear once you build a gate on rare occasions ghasts will spawn around it. Dont build one in your house man.

An online friend of mine has this and has been bugging me to try it.

I'm really starting to consider it now.

                            I made that.

P.S. It was night when I started so I ran down to my mine to show where about 1/3 to 1/2 of my cobble came from, the gardens are after that.

                            Also, I'm not quite finished.
