    IG Maker?

I'm sorry if this is not the right place to post this. Anyways...

What is it? I haven't paid much attention to what EB has been making, and so I was suprised to see this maker when I went to buy RMXP.

From what I've seen/read, it looks like RPG maker meets Game Maker. I'm gonna download the Trial version after I get some stuff done on my current RPG. Any of you used this maker?

I've tried. I had the trial version installed on my roomate's PC upstairs, and although the flexibility seemed to be there, the interface was EXTREMELY unintuitive.

I really want to work with it some more, but I purchased my laptop almost for the sole purpose of being able to use the program on a computer of my own, and IG Maker does not seem to be compatible with Windows 7, even in compatibility mode.

In terms of doing anything creative at all, this kinda completely took the wind out of my sails.

I hate it when they sacrifice customization for idiot-proofing. Why can't they have both? RPG Maker 2 had 3 difficulty modes, one for total noobs and then an unbelievably complex hard mode. RM3's limitations ruined it for me. RM1 is still my favorite console one, it has a perfect balance between user friendly and flexibility.

I'll go download the trial version and see what its like. I have Vista, but ironically, I have yet to find a game that can't play on it. Its usually just a matter of some tweaking or even a patch. Wonder if its the same for your Win 7?

Oh, it seems extremely customizable. That's not the problem. It's just that every part of the process is completely unintuitive. I messed around with it for over an hour before I was even able to figure out how to import a graphic. It's not under the graphics section or whatever it's called, as you think it would be. You first need to go to another mode, set up some basic code to tell the program that you want to use a graphic, then go back to graphics, select the code you just made, then finally grab a graphic from your PC to put in the game. Even the help section took about 3 passes through to figure out that much.

THAT's how unintuitve it is. A simple thing like importing a simple graphic or sprite took over an hour to figure how to do it.

As for a patch, I scoured Google, and exactly one site came up claiming to have a patch for IG Maker and Windows 7. It wasn't even aaffiliated with Enterbrain. It was a fan forum, and I was not even able to access the page until I became a member of the site. So I signed up, went through the email verification or whatever I had to do, and was still not able to access that page.

It comes down to the fact that if I want to use the program (which I badly do...I want to put a game on the Xbox 360), I need to partiton my laptops's HDD, and will need to install Windows XP or Vista on the other partition in order to use the software.

Oh so its just got a confusing/illogical layout? Well I also hate that...but at least you can get used to that.

BTW, did you come across these sites?

          http://rpgmaker.net/forums/topics/6451/

What is the exact error message/problem your getting? 75% of the compatibility problems I have on Vista are fixed by giving the program admin rights. I'm sure you probably tried that already though.

One of the sites you linked to hosts downloads of pirated RPG Maker software, so I removed the link.

Please double check PC RPGM sites that you link to, to make sure they don't host that kind of content. If they do, you are not allowed to link to them for any reason, or even mention their names here.

Oh crap...Sorry, I wasn't even thinking about that. I just threw some links from google. I'll make a note of that in the future.

BTW, I just installed and started up IG maker on my Vista without any problems. I'm going to go rub this in my friends face )
