Can I make this topic here? There's one in the regular VG forum, but as anyone who's played the game knows, the online is the real draw. I've found a number of cool people to quest/B.S. with, but if any Pavvies still play this, it'd be cool to run some quests.

Re: White Knight Chronicles?
It's not the game's fault you chose to spam BR runs ad nauseum. Granted, that's a cheap, easy thing to exploit for really decent Guild points, but you made the decision to do it, not the game.
Yes, I HAVE done a number of BR runs, but the dynamics DO vary depending on who you're doing the run with. And I don't do more than 3-4 at any given time.

Re: White Knight Chronicles?
Before you get even more defensive, there wasn't a decision to make. The decision was either do BR runs, or not play. I had done all the quests available to me, the amount of points you needed to level got completely exponentially stupid for the content the game provided. Doing BR runs was the only way to keep any level of sanity, and was also the only thing I could ever find anyone doing ever. I had only a handful of friends who had remained to play and they too saw that the only logical way to make progress was to spam BR. We all bought it the day it came out and ended up getting rid of it after about 4 or 5 weeks.
Doing the math, it would've taken 9 hours of Big Red to get the next rank up. 9 hours, of stupid little exploitable 4-5 minute quests. After I've already completed all available quests, why would I bother doing a 25-40 minute quest for less than what Big Red gives? There was nothing left to do. SOMETHING had to be repeated to gain points, and Big Red was the obvious choice. (Some of this math may be off, it's been months. But I do know that it was going to take 8-9 hours to rank up off of JUST Big Red runs.)
Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed the time I did put into WKC. I had a good 50-60 hours when I got rid of it. But there is no doubt that it had some serious flaws and that the majority of them involved the online mode. I mean, I could've always spent time NOT doing BR runs and getting the ridiculous item requirements for gear. Playing WKC online was like buying WoW RIGHT NOW in this day and age, and then spending all your time in Molten Core. Then spending all your time in Black Temple. Then spending all your time in Icecrown. That's a colossal waste of time. Endgame content was replaced by new endgame content in WoW with each expansion so there was purpose. But WKC's level 50 items were all released at the same time, and spending time grinding for gear was pointless once you hit a certain benchmark, and then stayed pointless until you hit max rank. Whatever the FIRST GR is that gives Level 50 gear is ok I guess, then the rest suck until the very last GR. If you're not working towards gear, and you're not working towards leveling up, what's there left to work on besides ranking up? And if you've already experienced all the different quests and completed them 2 or 3 times each... why WOULDN'T you try to find the one to rank up the fastest to get to the next set of quests? I still have Demon's Souls, and that required almost as much item grinding but there was a purpose to it cause they were all different and equally practical. No one's going to spend 80+80+80 hours working on getting a bronze medal, then a silver medal, then a gold medal when the alternative is to spend 10+10+80 to just skip to gold. It worked in WoW cause bronze was the best you could get until BC came out with silver medals, and then Lich King came out with gold medals. But WKC dangling them all in your face at once and then expecting you to play the game one GR at a time didn't work out.
If it's not the game's fault, then it's the game developers fault. And as I said earlier, I really hope WKC2 fixes that, cause I thoroughly enjoyed the WKC I did play.Keep the change.

Re: White Knight Chronicles?
Oh and to verfiy, I'm not attacking you (other than maybe the defensive statement, you appeared to have that tone) with anything I said, or trying to "troll" you. I don't post often these days, and I know that we haven't spoken much at all and you probably don't know me too well. Just wanted to give a heads up, just trying to share opinions and find a way to word what I'm trying to say.Keep the change.

Re: White Knight Chronicles?
Even at GR 7, and even before my first rebirth, I was able to solo a number of GR 7 quests. I'll grant you, there are some where I still (at GR 8 and first rebirth..at lvl 48 now) cannot solo the boss. But as a pure magic-based character, I can grind Sprog Cleaning (lots of spiders) for money and experience without a hitch, and quit prior to the boss.
Yes, for quick and easy GR up, BR IS the way to go, no question. But there ARE other quests that you can do in less than 15-20 minutes with a group of 2-3 others that give you nearly the same guild points, but with more experience and more money, in addition to (possibly) better drops, depending on which armor/weapon you are trying to bind.
I honestly can see both sides of this. I went into yesterday needing 900,000 to get a GR up from 8 to 9. Playing for the majority of the day, I whittled that down to only needing about 400,000. And that's not straight questing...that includes breaks for food/bathroom/cigs and time spent just chatting with some of the people I've met. But from GR 9 to GR 10, you need 2.3 million guild points. And BR2 only gives 25,000 per run. So, yes...it does take a seemingly unreasonable amount of time to rank up. I'll give you that.
That being said, I'm 280 hours in in a bit less than 2 months. I'd rather have the ability to rank up more quickly, but I also don't want to be able to blow through the online portion having maxed everything in 3 months and have nothing left to do.
And each time I log on to play online, I always accomplish something aside from levelling up/ranking up. Either I get the materials I need for a piece of armor I have my eye on, or the mats for binding or upgrading a better weapon. Or the parts or money to upgrade something in my Georama (town). Due to this, I've never felt the experience was hollow or filled completely with worthless grinding. Ever since I began playing, there's always been 3 or 4 things at any given time that I could/needed to put my attention toward.

Re: White Knight Chronicles?
So I picked White Knight up and am pretty excited to start it, however I still don't have internet and am curious whether it'd be smarter to wait to start it or just go ahead and hop to it.
I'm not sure how being connected to PSN makes a difference and I definitely don't want to miss out on anything.
But I'm always up for a Co-op buddy and definitely need to learn the ropes!

Re: White Knight Chronicles?
Just keep playing the story a bit. You'll level up pretty well and get decent equipment for your character. Plus it'll give you a better idea on what to do rather than getting confused and dying online.
Also, you don't get access to online mode until you play the story a bit anyway.
And for anyone who hasn't beaten the game yet, if you choose to start over in new game+, you lose access to areas and quests when you try to hop online. Whatever you got open in single player is what you get for online.Last edited by Goufunaki; 08-22-2010, 10:16 PM.

Re: White Knight Chronicles?
Yeah, Dillinger, play through story mode first. Then even if you get online, really, just start dabbling in the online until you get decently far in the single player offline. That'll give you, as Gouf said, some levels, some decent equipment, and some practice with what tactics you want to use with your character build, not to mention actual quests that you've unlocked.
Oh, and Smurvis, as I was playing last night, I told the group I was with that I did not want to get my guild rank up (from GR 8 to 9) doing BR, as I had done so to get from 6 to 7, and then from 7 to 8, and it felt like a hollow victory. One guy asked me how many BR runs I had done, and it had only been 25 BR2 runs. The guy was very surprised that I had so few at my guild rank.
And if you ever play again, and do BR2, the dynamics are completely different that soloing BR, or even going in with a small party into BR early on.Last edited by Perversion; 08-23-2010, 12:19 PM.
