Re: Guild Wars 2
I'll definitely be buying this, although I have a feeling my graphics card won't be up to snuff and I'll have to wait until I upgrade or buy another desktop before I play this.
It looks neat. I like that they're going to use a persistent world and make the environment more interactive, and yeah, the game looks beautiful (though the voice acting worries me). I'm concerned that we may lose the challenge and the creative mission structure of the first game, though, and it looks like arena PvP isn't going to be as much of a focus this time around, which is a shame. Epic PvP (world vs. world) looks neat but I'm afraid it's going to be something you do a few times and never again.
I noticed most of the Elementalist skills shown in the video were also present in Guild Wars 1. That's interesting. I wonder if they're going to bring all the Professions back? I'd really like to see Necromancer and Ritualist put to rest, and I feel like most Mesmer and Paragon skills could all be partitioned and merged into different profressions.

Re: Guild Wars 2
Looking at the FAQ you can have personalized stories ala Mass Effect or Dragon Age, and they have a cinematic story like the first game. And there is Arena PvP, complete with setting you to max level and the best gear right out the gate.It looks neat. I heard that the original classes were being trashed altogether. Nevertheless still looks impressive.Last edited by DBtheProdigy; 06-29-2010, 09:45 PM.Ascendancy

Elementalist and Warrior are both in however. Dervish, Paragon, and Monk are confirmed to be out. If only because ANET said "NO Monks" and the fact that there aren't any spears or scythes in the game.Originally posted by DBtheProdigy View PostI heard that the original classes were being trashed altogether. Re: Guild Wars 2
Just a little news post I thought was kinda entertaining.
http://pc.ign.com/articles/110/1102939p1.html
Bar brawls, shooting galleries, Personality system, music/instrument system.
I honestly think that the makers of Duke Nukem Forever on on this, it seems like, if they have any idea, they just kind-of throw it in there. I see a bazillion little things from these talks and they haven't even covered the main gameplay mechanics.

Re: Guild Wars 2
Just read the article and I agree with you.
Diversions are nice but they should add to the overall experience of the game, not become a new experience of their own. And while it's not the worst thing to distract the player from their "goals", it's certainly a bad thing to distract the developer.
I hope they remain focused on what people loved about the first Guild Wars, because activities like the PvP Snowball Fights in Winter and the optional Challenge Missions (with leaderboards) were a perfect example of a diversion that really add to some players' experience without taking anything away from the rest.Last edited by Wavelength; 07-06-2010, 04:25 PM.

Re: Guild Wars 2
Well, they had a beta already available, like, two years ago, but they decided not to show it off, so who knows, maybe it's already mostly done? Gotta wait for the expo at least. It still has a year, but jeeez. So much stuff in this game. Personal Storylines, World Events, NPC reactions, msuic, brawling, pvp, pve, etc.
And we still have no idea how the game plays other than you get 5 auto skills, and there's no healer class.Last edited by Red Dragon; 07-06-2010, 11:41 PM.

What's an auto skill? Is that a passive skill that works without being used? Or is it something that all characters get, like the Resurrection Signet?Originally posted by Red Dragon View PostWell, they had a beta already available, like, two years ago, but they decided not to show it off, so who knows, maybe it's already mostly done? I don't think the Monks made Guild Wars 1 any worse and it was certainly cool to have a "quarterback" of the team that was really crucial to its survival. That being said, I won't miss them a bit. Giving each player (I assume) the option to go heavy damage or mixed healer is very cool because it will make for much more varied team formats (in PvP and PvE alike) and add extra strategy to the game, and should also both speed up and smooth out the pace of PvP matches.
I agree, it would be awesome if they gave us like an eight-minute video of uninterrupted gameplay, even if it's contrived. Show off things like server structure, quest structure, guilds, and the flow of battle.Last edited by Wavelength; 07-07-2010, 01:41 AM.

Re: Guild Wars 2
Auto skill as in you have 10 slots for skills, 5 of them are designated by the weapon you're holding. 1 has to be an elite skill, and another has to be a healing skill.
So that only really leaves 3 slots to fool around with whatever you want, but it makes the game more idiot proof in terms of builds.
Oh, and they're not having quests, apparently, or they're not calling them quests. They're trying to avoid the whole grind this quest, blah blah blah.

Setting down a fire trap, then shooting arrows through the trap letting them light on fire, causing additional fire damage.

Re: Guild Wars 2
More talking to myself. Thought this blog entry was neat. Basically, leveling isn't going to be a curve but a straight line. Same amount of time to get from 1 to 2 and 79 to 80. Also the cap is level 80
http://www.arena.net/blog/progressio...n-guild-wars-2
Overall, we expect our content to be the driving force behind how long it takes to do things in-game. Anyone can increase the length of an experience bar and call it content, but our world is filled with an almost endless stream of things to do. We expect content—not long, grindy progression—to be the deciding factor that keeps people playing our game. We want everyone to stick with Guild Wars 2 because our content is fun and enjoyable, not out of some dogged determination to slowly, slowly advance. And because our world is ever-changing and dynamic, you can play our content again and again! Two characters journeying through the game will have two different experiences, which means the game will remain fresh for all you out there who enjoy making a million characters.

Re: The Official Guild Wars 2 Topic
So hey, another cool video showing off really cool stuff.
So more me talking to myself.
What do you think about that Red Dragon?
I think it's neat what about you Red Dragon?
Oh I dunno. Looks like Dragon Age mixed with an MMO.
But did you see that giant bone dragon? And the huge Charr fortress. Effin' awesome.
Ya, showing off how skills any how they synergize, Asura riding around inside golems. Lightining Guns ftw.
So yeah. Still not actual gameplay though...
But heck it was a cool movie and all in-game shots.
I want to see the UI dangit!

HEY RED DRAGON!
WHAAT?
GAMEPLAY VIDEO:
WOOT!
Why does he just show reviving for the first part?!
I am not sure. But you can see other things fighting.
And things don't take forever to die!
Yeah! No fighting one bad guy for five minutes at a time.
Cyclone!!!!!
The giant cannon was cool too.
Map travel like Guild Wars 1, only costing a bit of gold.
So yeah. Stuff is in here. It look neat.
I agree.Last edited by Red Dragon; 08-17-2010, 08:03 PM.

Re: The Official Guild Wars 2 Topic
My Red Dragon v. Red Dragon Preview-Review:
I like how the "Formidable Opponent" premise was flipped by having the one guy act as two guys who agree with each other. Somehow it feels even more like Fox that way. I wish he would post them as linked videos on You Tube though. Red Dragon in HD would be the bee's pajamas. With a little effort, the patter could be tuned up, but as it stands now I give it 7 boxes out of potato. So you're a fish out of water...
Keep swimming.
What else can you do?
