Re: Oh Boy, the government is goofing off again
Wait, wait, WAIT. Are you trying to tell me, as reasonable as I am, that somebody was using a computer and looked at porn?

I swear every time a person who makes more than 60k a year does something every one of us is doing right now with a tab open they have to go all "What?!" I mean, nobody looks at porn nowadays. It's practically unheard of, all nine billion dollars of it. These people must be under the influence of Old Scratch himself.
What's the point of having an emergency response system if you can't provoke the wrath of God?

its not that they looked at porn on a computer, its that they did so while they where getting paid and most often on government computers. in most companies this is a serious breach of ethics, and outright time fraud against taxpayers.
cant say im too surprised. there is so much waste, so little oversight, and nearly nothing done about non performing staff. i get guilty every time i open the internet to find some info on a product we carry.

Sheesh, if that's all why is it even a story?A regional staff accountant tried to access pornographic websites nearly 1,800 times, using her SEC laptop during a two-week period. What's the point of having an emergency response system if you can't provoke the wrath of God?

This. You're not getting paid to surf for porn or otherwise screw around on the web, you're getting paid to do your job. If I was in a management position, I wouldn't hesitate to fire or take whatever disiplinary action is available against employees who screwed around on the job (though in this case, they may be unionized, so probably nothing will be done). Not only are they wasting the company's time they're getting paid for, but the other workers have to take up the slack. And the sheer amount of porn they were downloading:Originally posted by Karr Lord of Chaos View Postits not that they looked at porn on a computer, its that they did so while they where getting paid and most often on government computers. in most companies this is a serious breach of ethics, and outright time fraud against taxpayers.
Good god, how big was that stash?"In fact, this attorney downloaded so much pornography to his government computer that he exhausted the available space on the computer hard drive and downloaded pornography to CDs or DVDs that he accumulated in boxes in his office," the inspector general's report said.
Because they're government workers, there's the added problem of them doing this while being paid by the taxpayers, some of whom may object morally to it. You want to look at porn, do it at home. I'm sure they were making enough money to afford a computer and internet connection for personal use.

Re: Oh Boy, the government is goofing off again
Given that all the SEC does is let robber barons get off for a small fine (read: bribe) without admitting guilt, the doofuses watching porn were probably doing less harm than the rest of their ilk.
Disband this sham of a watchdog organization.
