Re: Deadly Premonition
The price is right.
It's so unapologetic in it's plagiarism of Twin Peaks that's it's irresistible. I'm gonna try to grab one tomorrow. |

Re: Deadly Premonition
I only found out about this game today, and whoa boy do I ever want to play it. It's like Silent Hill and Twin Peaks had drunken sex together!
It's probably going to be a cheese fest, but I don't care. It's going to be fun! |

I'd be all over this, except the PS3 version is import only and is going for 5x the asking price.

Re: Deadly Premonition
THIS GAME.
Gus bought it and we played it yesterday. I cannot believe how hilariously awesome it is! Know how I mentioned the Silent Hill/Twin Peaks sex thing? It's more like an orgy between Silent Hill, Twin Peaks, Resident Evil, Grand Theft Auto and Shenmue. I am so not kidding. The monsters in game are both scary and funny at the same time. On one hand, they have eerie joker-esque or the crow faces, bend over backwards and walk towards you while flailing their arms creepily, but sometimes it's really hard to be intimidated by something doing the limbo while making mentally handicapped sounds. DEUUUUURRRRRRHHHHHHHHRHHHHH! You get to drive a patrol car around town as you go from place to place. The car uses the ENTIRE controller to do everything from honking the horn to operating the blinker signals (which will just keep going if you don't turn them off), using the windshield wipers (and droplets of rain WILL accumulate on your windshield if you aren't using them!), or blaring the sirens. The game accompanies driving segments with exciting cheesy seventies cop show music! XD The character you play as, York, is a total weirdo. He fortune tells with his coffee every morning. He talks to an invisible person named "Zach" all the time. Smokes two puffs of a brand new cigarette and then switches it out for a new one. Cares nothing for other people's feelings and has a habit of grinning after he's been a jerk to someone (with green teeth! lol) Best of all, you can make him even weirder if you so choose. You can go without shaving and changing your clothes for the bearded, flies hovering around you look. ![]() The game awards you extra cash for doing things like observations or small extra stuff. We got $10 for examining a can of pickles! Now that was funny. The dungeons are creepy without being obnoxious. Some people may not appreciate that the game seems to hold your hand so you can't really get too lost, some who are directionally challenged may love it. It is rather helpful, but who knows what later dungeons are like. I am seriously considering buying a copy of this game just to own it, even though I don't have an XBOX 360. Perhaps it is high time to get one. XD |

Yay!
I just found an article that perfectly describes how I feel about this game. It scored a 10 on Destructoid! http://www.destructoid.com/review-de...n-165168.phtml |

Re: Deadly Premonition
Don't take the reviews at face value. The entertainment factor with this game is along the lines of "so bad it's good." The best thing I can compare it to is a Suda51 game. It's a unique idea with good direction wrapped in terrible controls with boring gameplay. The appeal of Deadly Premonitions almost entirely revolves around it's quirky plot and setting but if you hated games like Killer7 or Pathologic for the same reason I guarantee you'll hate this game as there's absolutely no redeeming value gameplay wise.

Re: Deadly Premonition
There's never a moment that passes where you aren't feeling, "didn't I do this in another game?". And the game is well aware of it! QTEs, Shenmue investigation, GTA driving, RE4 shootan, MGS stealth, Item huntin', Sims micromanagement, Silent Hill sound cues... But it's all here in ONE package.
And the game is completely honest about this. York is always rambling on lovingly about movies and TV shows. You can't help but feel the game's designers are similarly stringing together a love letter of all things games. And like a fan work, it is terrible in many ways: Seeing an unskipable screen filling splash for each item picked up... Having an excellent GPS map, but being unable to mark locations. And all the inappropriate voice acting, music, and scenes... These are things that Twin Peaks did similarly. Like Lynch was saying "People take Prime time drama way too seriously" and responded with inappropriate comic relief, an occult-practicing FBI agent and a a murder investigation dragged on way too long. So it's no surprise that DP used Peaks as the primary material of it's homage heap. Last edited by Gustaff 13; 02-28-2010 at 11:35 PM. |

Re: Deadly Premonition
The game was originally a straight up rip-off of Twin Peaks complete with dancing dwarf in a red velvet room but around 2008 they decided to make it more "original" which resulted in such a delay in development. You can still see the original trailers on youtube back when it was called Rainy Woods.
Still, if you enjoy games because you like the aspect of playing them you're going to be sorely disappointed with this title. It mimics other games, poorly, and makes up for it in writing and atmosphere alone. Killer7 is the best analogy I can think of to compare this game to. Re: Deadly Premonition
How did a murder investigation take way too long in Twin Peaks? They investigated it for like two weeks before it was solved.
