    Slimline PS2

I recently bought a slimline PS2 (used) and it starts to heat up ridiculously hot after about 2 to 3 hours of gameplay. The belly of the PS2 is about the same temperature as when you turn your water faucet on straight hot. I've noticed RPG Maker 1 and 2 heat it up the worst.

Anyone else have this problem? If so, what do you do to fix it? Will a little fan pointed at it help any?

Oh and I already have the PS2 on a flat piece of cardboard, to ensure ventilation underneath it.

Maybe the fan has dust or something in it.

    Don't copy that floppy!

I heard some models were defective like this or at least had trouble reading the blue-bottomed cd's. Try playing another game (DVD) and seeing if it does the same.

        why cardboard?

cardboard is an insulator. thats why it's heating up. it's absorbing all the heat, and radiating it right back up unto the PS2.

the slimline gets hot, but not THAT hot.

Obviously placing your PS2 inside a freezer or a bathtub full of ice water whenever you play it is the only way to solve the problem.

I stand mine up on the stand.

Y'know, the one it comes with.

No, I don't think the Slimline PS2's can be stood up at all. I have the stand for my old fat PS2 which keeps it cool, not that it gets very hot.

Valk is right, the cardboard is making it worse. Clear out any dust in the fans/vents. Make sure the area it is in is open enough for proper air-flow. A good idea, if it is still getting too hot, is to get four objects to stand it on, to leave the bottom exposed to open air. Something with flat surfaces to keep it level. Also something stable, so don't use a four piles of quarters, unless you glue them together...

you can get a stand. it screws on. theres a hole in the side of the system for it. the stand is round, with a metal weight on the bottom.

                    Mine did!

If you ask me, the system was meant to be stood up.

Hmm maybe I'll just stand it up on it's side and see if that helps.
