I remember the 3D chrono trigger remake that got shut down. But it wasn't a full game, just key scenes.

Someone was actually making a new CT game with their own original story.

The five-year-long project, based on the original Chrono Trigger Super Nintendo ROM was due to be released later this month.

Obviously, this guy didn't learn from Square's other legal action towards the 3D CT. I never heard about this new one til today, but he must have been talking about it the entire time.

Eh... while 5 years is impressive, I'm not real big on a story involving the same characters as before..

it was using their code, their sprites, all their assets. of course they had a right to take action. and of course, anyone wanting to play it would have to steal the game.

That's what I was thinking. On the other hand, cutting away to play as Magus and Frog on their own journeys like the trailer suggets is a really cool idea.

I dunno... I'm not convinced the game was gonna be great, or even good. But don't people do this kind of thing with other games all the time?

I've noticed a few edits to existing sprites, but everything else seemed exactly the same. I don't get how it took 5 years to begin with. It's not like they were starting completely from scratch.

like I said before. they were using all of their material, and anyone who wanted to play the game would have to STEAL chrono trigger. which I bet is the absolute biggest reason they shut this down, especially considering they are currently selling the game at retail.

It's pretty easy to do a rom hack of Chrono Trigger. There's a program similar to the PC RPGM series that lets you do it effortlessly.
