The goal was to make a game that is based on any professionally-made game. That was essentially the only guideline in the contest. It was also set up to potentially have the biggest prize ever awarded to the winner. I never mentioned how that would be done, but I will now. Basically, every game that was entered would add money to the prize based on it's score, so each game entered could add anywhere from 1 to 5 dollars to the prize. Doesnt seem like a big deal, but think about what would happen if 20 or more people entered and all scored relatively high. yeah.
But instead, only three people entered. meaning the maximum possible prize amount was $15. That wasnt gonna do. So I've changed the prize, which I will get into after I copy the relatively short reviews of the contest games to this post. Figuring out a new prize has been responsible for the several-day delay in me posting the results from the date that I finished the reviews. Oh, want to know why it too me so long to review the games, when the contest was so long ago? I misplaced the disc for RPG Maker 3. I found it later behind my PS2 games. yeah. that makes sense.
Anyways, the games were scored not only based on their quality, but how well they used the game or games that they selected for their entry.
Reviews (will be added to contest page later on):
Zelda's Pie
RPG Maker 1
Made by Duel
Based on: CDi Zelda games
This game... uh, well. You fight Octoroks. and Ganon. There's really no structure to the game. This is a pain in the ass to review. I'll just sum it up by saying Duel obviously knew ahead of time that he had no chance of winning with this. It's entertaining, it's funny, but it cannot be called a good game.
Score: 4 out of 10.
Pavilion Iron Chef: Episode 1
RPG Maker 3
Made by Obright
Based on: Iron Chef (yes, there are Iron Chef video games)
In Pavilion Iron Chef, you square off against Crunk in a contest making food. There are several stages to this game, and each one is judged by a different group of three pavilion members. The gameplay is relatively simple: you select a main ingredient, a seasoning, and a cooking method. The game then tells you what you made based on your choices. All the judges have unique tastes, and I don't think it's possible to please them all. The writing is the biggest reason to play this game. I could not wait to see who the next group of judges were, and to find out how well Obright captured their personalities. I wasnt disappointed at all. Confused sometimes, but not disappointed.
Score: 8/10
Evil Fantasy
RPG Maker 3
Made by Lausen
Based on: Resident Evil and Final Fantasy VII
Rather odd mix, filling the Final Fantasy VII world with Zombies. The plot is fairly well written, and manages to make slightly more sense than the plot of the actual FFVII. The biggest surprise to me was the custom battle system. Custom battle systems, as everyone knows, are pretty damn hard to do in RPG Maker 3. The battle system he has implemented here focuses on firearms, although you also have access to Materia. It all works pretty damn well, too. I'm of the opinion that absolutely NOTHING can make RPG Maker 3 battles fun, but Lausen has at least managed to make them interesting.
Score: 9/10

Okay. So the winner is revealed. Let's reveal the prizes.
Lausen, for winning the contest, gets any game or game-related object he can find on amazon.com that's listed for $30 or less (don't worry about shipping). The game will be ordered and delivered before christmas. Deadline for telling me what game to order is December 6th.
Obright, for coming in second place and being SO damn close to tying for first, gets the first ever Pavilion Mystery Trophy. I will not reveal the trophy prior to mailing it out. If it's ever going to be revealed, it'll be Obright's doing, not mine.
Duel, for failing, gets a random object mailed to him.
Everyone gets something.
So. PM me with the info I need to get prizes to you.
Also, please upload your games via the submission forum. I'd upload them, but I figure you might want to write your own descriptions and such.
