    Hey hey

Hey guys...just joined last night. I bought RPG Maker 3 probably a year ago (found it in a bargain bin for like $15), but only just now got around to playing it. I was desperate the last couple of days to try and find RPG Maker 3 resources out there on the internet and couldn't find anything.

Until now...I'm surprised to find an actual, still-running, community on the RPG Maker series, especially RPG Maker 3.

Not having a USB keyboard makes it really hard, but I'm having fun with it so far.

My plot kinda sucks, so I think my game will be no longer than 10 or 20 minutes, but hey, it's my first one. We'll see how it goes.

It's about a medieval zombie outbreak (takes place in just one town, but I have put exit points in the open areas to warp you to another "town", but it's all different parts of the same location to make it bigger)

    Welcome to the Pavilion!

The RPGM community is alive and doing really well despite how it looks, and its only going to get better since VX and AGM was released.

The best thing to do is stay small for your first game until you get the hang of everything, theres a LOT of information and tutorials in the RM3 forum so browse the list and find some more inspiration!

Here I come Pav, like the Kool-Aid man barging into a funeral! Oh yeah!

Welcome. I'm fairly new as well, but let me know if you need help with anything and I'll try my best.

I'm descent at storylines and such...not sure how much that helps anyone.
Again, welcome and I hope that you enjoy your stay.

it's not so much the Toolset that I'm having problems with (though I'm sure there are plenty of tricks out there that I would never think of), but it's using those tools to create an effective and long game.

I guess I'm just short on story ideas. I can come up with a premise, just not scene-for-scene scripts or plots.

I usually just think of the game as a book of sorts, so you start out in chapter one (town or dungeon or whatever) and go from there.
It helps me keep things in perspective. I just kinda outline each chapter in my head.
            For example:

            Chapter 1:
            Meet main character.
            Explore the town.
            Get sent on mission.
            Dungeon.

            Chapter 2:
            Introduce bad guy.
            Travel to new town.
            Dungeon.

Something like this would usually apply to a longer story with maps, but if you look at it a certain way, you could use items instead of people to tell your story since most everyone is dead.
See a coffin or something and give your character the chance to inspect the items around him so that he gets a better feeling for what happens and slowly discovers the truth behind everything.
You could do an outline by section of the town instead of different maps for something like your game, like how much of the story you want to be revealed in each area or whatever.

                Hello & welcome.

You definitely got the time period right. RM3 is kinda stuck in that era, with a few cheerleaders thrown in for...for...um....spice? LOL! Actually a few people have successfully made games with it featuring other time periods.

Let us know if we can help.

what sorts of time periods have people done? When I got the game, I was hoping to do something more modern day, but I think it'd be almost impossible. I mean, there's no so much a horse & carriage prop in this game

In the Anubis Conflict(the game Im working on), its actually a modern day espionage game all played out in a third world country.

A lot of a "modern look" can be achieved by molding the world into something that you would find, heres a few examples:
