I finally got RM2. Ordered it from Gamestop.com and it came today. I was disappointed that it didn't come with the case or manual but that's to be expected (the b!tches { ). What I didn't expect was for the game to not work. I know the blue discs are a lot of trouble but my PS2 won't recognize it no matter how many times I try even after cleaning the disc and the lens. I know my system isn't worn out because it's less than a year old. Does the slim PS2 just have a harder time reading blue discs? I'm going to go to my cousin's house and try it on his thick PS2 to see if it'll work or maybe it's just the disc is defective. In the meantime is there anything I can do to get it to read?

RPGM2 only sucks as much as the mind trying to program it.

If turning the PS2 on it's side (yeah, I hate so doing as well) does not help, you may have a bad disc. Or a bad PS2.

See if they can play it where you bought it. If so, scream.

He ordered it online. Anyway, try using a lens cleaner disc. It worked wonders on my formerly broken PS2.

But won't a local Gamestop back-up the Website store? If you've got a receipt and shipping materials they should help.

If it's the "Disk Read Error" problem, Sony will fix it for free under warranty or not. Their number is 1-800-345-SONY. The unfortunate thing is that the problem will keep coming back and you'll have to keep sending it to them.

The "Disk Read Error" problem comes from a design flaw in the early version (1st year and a half or so) and has nothing to do with RPGM2 or the discs (no matter what other people say).

Sine you said yours was about a year old and the newer slim-PS2 model I know this is not the problem. The problem is that for one year or so the slim-PS2 models were made faultily and don't work with various older games (RPGM2 being one of them). My knowledge of this specifically is not great, but there is a topic somewhere in the Technical Help forum at these forums ( http://doansdomain.proboards27.com/ ) that talks about it more. Look there for more info; that's the only place I've heard of this from. I would link directly to it but I haven't been able to view anything there lately because the forums are updating.

Edit: Of course, if you bought the game on ebay or something there's a chance it's defective. It probably is the system though.

It's not a disc read error. I get the "Please insert a PlayStation or PlayStation 2 format disc." If it can't work on my PS2 I'll have to return it.

I used to get the exact same red screen of death. I picked up a maxell lens cleaner CD and used it, and now it works fine.

I love when people call it a design flaw, when some people who have had their PS2's since launch, have NEVER had Disk Read Errors on their PS2's.

Edit: I got the 2nd run of PS2's in Feb '01, never had DRE's. I traded it in back in October or November of year to get a newer PS2(the newest one before they changed to the slim), so that i could have the extra remote functionality and dvd compatibility.

Maybe 1 DRE through the life of my system.

Its not all about "design flaw"s.

gamestop stores won't back up their products if you order them online. i oredered an xbox online, it didn't work, and they wouldn't take it at the store so i had to pay 20 bucks just to ship it back to them.

No way Valk, that isnt even close to being accurate. It is actually only about 3-5%, and that is an estimated amount. the actual amount of people who have contacted Sony or made an issue of it, has been less than 2%, and as soon as i can find the independent article about it, i'll post it here.

most people have fixed it themselves, or just bought a new console. those dont get reported to sony.

speaking of which, sony of japan wont fix anything that goes wrong on the PS2 (they were the same with the PS1) so thats an entire country left out of any reports.

I don't know if it's the corporation wide rule but my local GameStops won't let you return systems even if you bought them from the store. I bought an XBox and wanted to return it and they said they do not return systems. He didn't even ask whether or not it was defective just "No returns on systems."

Sorry Valk, even if that is true, there is no way in hell 40% of PS2's have been defective. You are looking at 5-10% tops, and that is WAY over reaching. There is no way in hell there are or were 8 million defective PS2's out there.

And, if anything, it would be a "manufacturing defect" not a "design flaw", otherwise, every single PS2 with that flaw would have failed.
