thoughts on E3

So, what did you think of the show? Any games that really interest you? Any systems that you want to buy now?

Maybe we should make a post about E3 in the bush forum then we could all add our 2 cents.

OK! I own all the current consoles and handhelds already btw.

Nintendo
DS - Definitely the system with the coolest games at the show in my eyes. Online Mario Kart and Animal Crossing have me frothing at the mouth. Lot's of other stuff like the New Mario Bros, Castlevania DS, Meteos, and Advance Wars 3 have me very exited. The only disappointing thing about the DS's showing was that Zelda, Princess Peach, and Metroid Dread weren't there.

GBA - I thought it had quite a lackluster showing. I don't think Nintendo really meant all that third pillar stuff. It seems like they're just moving all the games to DS and leaving the GBA with the scraps. I think there were only 2 games that I want shown at the show and those were Gunstar Super Heroes and Metal Slug. GBA Micro is just something I'll get for my collection. It's really cute and will surely help sell a few more million GBAs. I don't really have much use for it though.

GC - It didn't have a great showing and I didn't really expect it to either. Obviously development for the system is coming to a stop. There were no surprises for the GC. Mario Strikers might be something I'll get though because it's being made by the same people who made Sega Soccer Slam which aside from it's ugly as sin art direction was a solid game. Other than that it's all about Pokemon XD, Viewtiful Joe VFX Battle, Fire Emblem, and Zelda which more than likely be my favorite games this year. Oh, and probably Ultimate Spider-Man and StarCraft Ghost. I think those games look hot.

Revolution - Some exiting announcements and that was it. I've already decided I'm buying it on day 1 though. I can't resist Smash Bros online and Mario.

Microsoft
Xbox - Basically a no show. I can't really comment on it.

Xbox 360 - I was actually exited about the 360 about a week ago. Then the truth about the thing started to surface. Xbox Live silver doesn't let you play games online for free and backwards compatibility will only be available for select titles with more to be available through downloadable updates which would require Xbox Live Gold. I'm really not much into gun games or racing games and that's a lot of what I see on 360. I am not going gaga over Gears of War. I really find it funny how Xbox fans go wild over these games which usually turn out to be complete turds. The only things that interest me on 360 are Perfect Dark, Virtua Fighter, and maybe Sonic. I'll definitely buy the system for these games but, I'll be damned if I go out and spend $400 on the system and games on day 1.

Sony
PS3 - Absolutely nothing that interests me was shown on it but, it sure looked pretty. I heard BioWare is making 3 games for it though. If KOTOR 3 is one of them then count me in.

PSP - PSP got Nintendowned. The most interesting games on it were Guilty Gear, Street Fighter Alpha 3, and Burnout and they just look like straight ports of games I can play on PS2 right now without needing someone else with the game to play multiplayer.

PS2 - We <3 Katamari, Okami, FFXII, DQ8, Soul Calibur III, and PSU looked good of course but, like GC, development for the system is coming to an end and there weren't many surprises.

I was satisfied by this year's E3. There were many games that sparked interest and excitement in me.

I was very impressed by the PS3's apparent graphical power. From a technical standpoint, this is quite an advancement in computer technology, at least in this case. I wonder what the games might look like in action, let alone the final console? In any case, it seems pretty fat in comparison to the other consoles, and in more ways than one. I'm not complaining.

The X-Box 360 seemed somewhat interesting. I didn't notice too many shocking games, but there were some potential titles worth looking into. Customizability's cool and the PC connectivity makes sense. Though, I simply can't see why so many people are complaining about the system's name. Is it just the US? The US seemed to be the only country that didn't recieve Raiden from MGS2 well at all, if memory serves me right. This sort of follows the critical pattern, I guess.

The Revolution's unveiling lifted a lot of weight off my shoulders. The system's prototype appearance is quite a step forward compared to Nintendo's earlier consoles (I DEMAND A ROYAL BLUE ONE!). Pretty damn small, too, which also gives it an edge. The 20 years worth of downloadable content is a wonderful addition, especially if you have that one SNES-like GC controler. Also, Nintendo is apparently trying to set up a strong launch lineup to accomodate it's Wi-Fi connectivity. Super Smash Bros. bustin' heads online from the get-go! Whoo! There's still plenty of stuff to be revealed, however the above is enough to make me warrant a purchase. I still wonder about those little tidbits outlined in the latter post(s) in the Revolution topic... Hmm...

The DS had a great lineup this year. Of all the consoles, the DS had more games I wanted. Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection simply makes it better, especially with games like Mario Kart and DSpeak (though it's not a game, you're calling your friend for free, which is cool). Though, my favorite DS game this year was New Super Mario Bros. Not a moment too soon, I say.

I admit, the GBM likely isn't a smart idea. However it's not like it isn't going to sell anyway. I believe they mentioned something about it's playing MP3/MP4s. I'm just concerned about the screen and button sizes.

The GBA had a few nice showings, but it's starting to show it's age. Nonetheless, I'll stay onboard 'till the last hurrah.

The PSP had a number of cool games, too; the best of which was AC:FF, in my eyes, albeit lack of media coverage. The PS3's unveiling may have overshadowed the PSP and PS2 this year, but there's still plenty of stuff to look forward to.

The GC was always underappreciated by 3rd party developers, with only Capcom and Nintendo taking full advantage of it's hardware. Nonetheless, it seems like Nintendo dosen't plan on it's fizzling out at the end of it's life. The GC should go out with a bang in transition to the Revolution in 2006 with it's final major Nintendo title, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. I've never really been a big-time Zelda fanatic. In spite of that, I sincerely hope this next one wows me.

The X-Box didn't seem to have a lot of interesting titles, save a few. It makes sense, given MS' focus on the 360. I really wish I had payed more attention to the poor little green box during it's prime.

I could list all of the titles at E3 that excited me, but this post is a friggin' essay already, so I'll just mention the next-gen consoles I plan on getting and when:

*PS3: My 1st rule of console purchasing is to make sure there's at least one big title you're really looking forward to and/or at least two or more titles of lower magnitude that you're interested in at launch prior to purchase. Since the PS3 didn't have any actual games on display and launch announcements few, I'll have to wait for a while 'till something pops up. MGS4 is obviously on my must-get list, but it certainly dosen't seem like a launch title. I'm definitely getting a PS3, though.

*360: So far, not enough titles of interest to make me warrant a purchase yet. I doubt I'll be getting this thing at launch. However, there's still a possibility of my getting it sometime later.

*Revolution: Just about all of my console purchase rules apply to this one. I'm definitely getting the Revolution at launch.

All in all, I'm looking forward to the rest of this generation and the next generation.

My game of the show? New Super Mario Bros.

I think there is a lot of great stuff coming out, but I am not thrilled with the new consoles just yet.

The two games I'm really interested in were ones I knew about before E3.

E3 left me kind of blah to be honest, I think I had myself too pumped up for it.
PS3 was a great tech demo.
Evoultion was the best console of a no show I have ever seen.
Where the hell was mario,held off for another year I see.
The DS showed the greatest dog washing simulator of all time.
It was also hilarious when Sqaure enix finally announced but for FF12 2006.
Yeah the Xbox 360 totally had my attention for the online aspects of it, but Naruto just clued me in that games aren't free right off the bat and that is something I didn't know...
Ahh well this Christmas there is Zelda, Fire Emblem and Dragon Quest 8.
But I will be looking closely at the Xbox 360 launch.

Yeah, I could have sworn I heard J Allard say that Xbox Live Silver included multiplayer gaming. He wasn't technically lying though.

There are two tiers of Live service on Xbox 360. The silver tier is free and includes access to the Marketplace, with gamer profiles, voice and text messaging, video messages from gold members, and some massive multiplayer online games. The gold level is paid and includes all of the silver functionality along with online tournaments, video chat, multiplayer gaming, and Live special events.

So, you're not buying a DS? I want to dig holes in front of your Animal Crossing house

Sadly the DS still does not interest me yet, but who knows that might change in the future.
And if there was a way I could enter your town and steal all your **** then yes I would be in day one.

That's actually definite with AC DS's Wi-Fi capabilities. Hell, I could even go to your town and teach your people cuss words.

Oh, and Mario Kart DS has Wi-Fi, too, and it's a whole new game rather than a port. Hell, the jumping's back.
