Official word on Hard Drive Use for RM 3

Ascii Dave got in touch with me and gave me this little tidbit.

"The hard drive just allows for quicker loading of game data. It is totally not necessary to play the game. Currently there is about a 3 second or so pause for entering battle, if you have the hard drive it cuts it down to about 1 second - no biggy but still nice to have if your PS2 is capable. It speeds up menus and other loading times as well, but honestly the load times are pretty good as is. We added it just as a bonus to US gamers."

On the one hand I'm disappointed because downloadable content would have been such a great addition to the game. On the other hand, I'm glad I won't be missing out on anything by not having a HDD. But all in all I'm not that surprised. Other than FFXI and SOCOM 2 (the two games they used to promote the HDD when they released it) nothing really seems to use the it for anything significant.
