    Contest theme and rules announced

These are the details for the Summer Contest:

It is called the "Shameless rip-off contest".

There are a ton of options for what to do in this contest, so I'm sure everyone can have fun with it:

Make a game based on a non-RPG Maker game. Could be a fan-game set in the series, could be a remake, could be a side story. could even be a game based on or parodying a non-RPG Maker game, but with a completely original cast. replace the entire cast of metal gear and see how that goes. make your own zelda-style game but using an original character and location. turn tetris into a strategy RPG full of political intrigue. make a game about the people who made a game. these are just examples of the kinds of things you can do in this contest.

    Basically:
Use characters from a non-RPG Maker game in your game, use a setting from a non-RPG Maker game in your game, or base your game on a non-RPG Maker game without using the characters or settings.

in short, the game has to be built around some part of a game not made with RPG Maker.

Just trying to make this as clear as possible. Feel free to ask questions though.

All three console RPG Makers will be usable, along with RPG Maker XP and RPG Maker VX.

When you submit your game, you must identify what game you based your game on. How well you did this will decide half of your score. If you say your game is based on Final Fantasy, for example, and I don't see the connection, you will LOSE half of your score. that will be 50 points that you just arent getting, which means that you stand no chance of winning.

Only one entry is allowed for each person.

Demos are not allowed, and will not be played.

The contest starts today, and ends August 10th.

The prize is (possibly) the biggest in this site's history. The first place prize will have a mystery starting value that increases a certain amount for each game that is submitted into the contest. there will be second and third place prizes which will have values depending on their review scores.

This contest will be judged by me.

      How deliciously manipulating.

I will have RPG Maker 2 in less then a week. I've reading/watching a lot about it. Maybe I'll make my game with RPGM2.

I'd commit to entering this contest but I did that before and still didn't make crap. So I won't promise to try but I'll try to try.

Sounds good, I need a short distraction from SR.

I'm intrigued. I've an idea that has been sitting in the back of my mind for awhile. Hopefully it will fit the specifications of the contest.

Hmm... Another thing that will slow my games progress down. I'm still in! I've been messing with RPGM2 a little. I'm lost, so I'll stick with the maker I know. Can't wiat for details.

Well I got most of the groundwork and bugs worked out on paper with the Anubis Conflict so perhaps its time to get into game designing?

I've been meaning to get back to the RPGM thing.

This should be the perfect excuse.

                            Re: Summer Contest Announcement

More RPGM stuff to distract me from what I should be doing--and I couldn't be happier about that!!

Depending on the rules I might create an entry in parallel with Panacea--or I might MAKE Panacea into my entry; I guess we'll see.

Will you be judging it alone? (If not, it might be worth discussing the rules with the other judges before posting them. Meh, you've probably thought about all this already.)
