    Step Up TWO! (Plus Afterstory...)

I just got back from seeing Step Up 2: The Streets. I guess I'll list the positives first. The dancing/choreography was absolutely amazing, and

    *** SPOILERS ***
Do not underestimate that nerdy kid, Moose. His dancing surprised me.
    *** END SPOILERS ***

The acting...well, the central chick in the flick has a very forgettable voice, and she really didn't fit in emotionally in the movie. There were a few other characters with the same problem, but I tolerated it. The dancing throughout this flick really saves the movie, though. It was better than Bee Movie, in my opinion.

    Now, here's some interesting ish...

I leave the movie, and a swarm of officers start heading outside for either two reasons:

    1. A fight probably broke out after the movie or

    2. Someone was breaking down some breakdancing on the sidewalk (this, I happened to see, after I headed to my car).

I simply shook my head, and got the hell out of there. If you live near where I live, I don't recommend seeing a movie on a Friday night. People are crazy.

If I wanted to see dancing, I would rent Happy Feet

Bonanza, I love you, but I can't fathom why you or anyone else would go to this movie.

If I wanted to see dancing....well, I really would not want to see dancing....but I'd watch Footloose. For some reason, none of those "inner city kids save themselves and their neighborhood by dancing" movies have ever interested me. I mean, the word cliche was invented for a reason.

Same with the "inspirational coach or teacher forces kids to confront themselves and their future, and in the end, they either win the big tournament, or they all go to Harvard," movies, too.

About the only movie in this genre that I think is any good is Stand and Deliver. I think that was also one of the first to really start (or maybe just popularize) this genre.

If you want a film that is anti-this genre, see Half Nelson. Now THAT film is quality. The rest of it....meh. I guess they have their place, though. They inspire people living in the inner cities to perhaps do something with their lives besides join gangs and deal drugs, or just give up on life as it seems hopeless; and they make the white suburban folks feel like they "empathize" with the situation, and thus make them feel better about themselves. Not coincidentally, these "inspirational coach or teacher" films are usually a pretty good bet for an Oscar nom or two.

These inner city dance, films, though....just a bunch of flash with no substance.

Gloom: I'm not really offended by your post.

Ryner: I'm happy I made your day.

Jamos: I love you, too...in a completely heterosexual way. I personally liked the first Step Up, amid the flaws, and so I figured, by choice, that I'd check the sequel. I got most of my money's worth, unlike other flicks I've seen (The Kingdom, That stupid Omarion flick, and others I can't name off the dome).

Duel: You forgot "You Got Served." That one has dancing, too!

Perv: Good choices. I'll take note of that.

Red Dragon: The dancing, mainly. You're right.

I hate movies that have no substance and try to cash in on blind youth.

This concludes my review of Step Up:2
The Cyclops having only one eye, needed to seek shelter from the harsh sun. The shadow cast by the spheres gave him temporary respite.
