RPG Maker XP - Not Vista friendly?

According to their site, Enterbrain cannot guarantee that any of the PC RPG Makers will function on Windows Vista.

A rough translation of their message:
Our company is doing operation verification for the Windows versions of RPG Maker for "Microsoft(R)Windows Vista™" which soon goes on sale.
We are afraid that we cannot guarantee the operation of Windows versions of RPG Maker on "Microsoft(R)Windows Vista™" as of January, 2007. We will update this page once we are able to confirm normal operation of the software.

Just something to consider when upgrading.

EDIT in 2008 for all the people wandering across this post even now:
This applied to the JAPANESE version only, which required a patch that they released shortly after they posted the above message. the US version of RPG Maker XP works fine with vista right off the bat. some people DO have problems though, and those people just need to set it to run in XP SP2 compatability, and run as an administrator. just click right click the program, go to properties, then advanced, then do what you gotta do. easy as hell. have fun, and thank you for lurking the RPG Maker Pavilion.

I'll upgrade once I get a new computer. But it does suck that Vista is turning unfriendly to games.

It's always like that with new Windows systems, bunch of programs are no more compatible. I have a nice track-recording program that I use to record my music compositions on Win98, but was no more compatible on XP. So I still keep my old computer for that. I like RPGMXP a lot, it's a shame to see that MS doesn't make its new system more friendly with old programs.

I hope Enterbrain will come up with a patch, or a solution to this.

Yeah windows isn't big on the whole backwards compatibility thing. Even an XP and 2000 network aren't compatible and that's a Windows program (and they're written on the same kernel for Christ sake). So next time I build me another computer I'll probably get Vista, until then 2000 is good enough for me.

As for that article quite a few people actually purchase programs that do that same thing (BlackICE I believe is one). So yeah it will be annoying, but it's not that big a deal. Vista had to do something to keep itself more secure (like encrypting your drive, but only if you buy Super Ultra Vista which is twice the price of Regular Vista (doesn't come with the new interface either)).

But until more companies and people support other OSes, Windows will continue to set the rules, and people will follow.

If you have RPG maker 2000, go here and download this RTP. That fixed the problem of it not running on Vista for me. Or at least it seemed to, haven't had time to test it properly...

while it's complely legal to distribute the RTP file for all of the PC RPG Makers, we do not support or even ALLOW discussion of RPG Maker 2000 here, as if you have it, you're 99% likely to be stealing it.
