Re: Let's Play: one of these Genesis games

When I was younger, I'd run in circles in front of Mortimer Reed until he asked me to kill ghouls, then I'd walk over to Winston Marrs and we would kick the ****.

**** yeah, Winston Marrs.

Re: Let's Play: one of these Genesis games

For older games, yeah. For PC games, people use Fraps or something similar. some people record with a video-in on their computer (gamebridge or something similar) for somewhat newer console games.

and then for some reason, a few people record themselves playing on their 10 year old JVC television on a webcam, making boring and cringeworthy commentary in their cracked teenager voice. YEAH I WANNA WATCH MORE OF THIS.

edit: oh yeah, Crusader of Centy won.

Re: Let's Play: one of these Genesis games

I'm replaying Shadowrun and I just remembered this game is pretty hard. Even as a street samurai (the game's equivalent of a fighter) you do next to no damage against the weakest of thugs who can beat the crap out of you with their fists. Gunderson's jobs are terrible (I think you have to complete two for every 1 point of karma) and he asks you to do dumb stuff like 10 nuyen for every ghoul you kill (ghouls, btw, will DESTROY YOU at this point and you waste more money on ammo than what you receive).

I'm basically doing all the easy escort missions and running away from everything. Thankfully your character's movement slows down when enemies approach you so when you see yourself moving like a snail it's time to run for the nearest building.

No, trust me it's 1 point per job. The only Johnson that has a karma difference (to my knowledge) is Vigore & Jarl, where they give one point less, I think. But Gunderson's pay is the lowest (although, the easiest). His ghoul contracts are worth it WAY later, though, when you have a really high Negotiation. Actually, that's the only reason why I used him after picking up Michael's package. He will pay up to 130 nuyen per ghoul if you have a maxed out Negotiation and Charisma. For some reason the other Johnsons max out at different rates. I never got a high pay with any of the others. It may be a bug with Gunderson, though (maybe they forgot to put this "cap" on him). But yeah, I agree on its difficulty in the beginning. I laughed when he gave me a ghoul run in the beginning and he said "20 per ghoul, up to twenty kills max...blah blah" and I still try it and the ghouls spawn, swarm me and I'm out like a light in less than a second.

And yeah, the Halloweeners are tough at first, even for a Samurai (you cant even run from them because of the Street Samurai's lack of Quickness). This topic got me playing it again on my emulator. I don't feel like digging through my garage for...really anything.

If you don't know what you're doing, it is very hard. I found it to be not too difficult to beat. I was 9 when I first played it.

The Predator Heavy Pistol is your friend. 15 rounds per clip and you can start slaying ghouls with it as soon as you get it. Killing the ghouls requires creative maneuvering, and you're best off with no party members to repeatedly die and eat up all of your medikits.

The first attribute that I upgrade is quickness. Then I save up for light combat armor at the crime mall and purchase it the first chance I get.

Also, IMO the best party is Joshua as a low-essence fast decker(maxxed out wired reflexes), Ricky for the magic user(highest max Willpower in the game and can cast hell blast without dying), and Winston Marrs for the samurai(Highest body in game possible, and I give him maxxed out dermal plating, and COOLEST character in the game). I give the decker the predator heavy pistol, the shaman the HK227, and the samurai gets an allegiance shotgun. All get heavy combat armor after joining the Yakuza. The only thing that posed a threat are hell hounds and Thon. It's easy to make your characters near-invincible.

The game was awesome, one of my childhood favorites, but it was terribly unbalanced. When I played it as a kid, the battles were not what held me back, but figuring out what to do next and wandering around hunting for the next piece of lore to guide me through.

It's full of easter eggs though. I didn't discover CHERNOBYL until I played through it for the 3rd time when I was in the 6th grade. I knew the letters were spelling out something important, but I had difficulty finding ALL of them because the tar pits present on certain networks liked to eat my 50,000+ nuyen programs.
