So, which RPG Makers do people still play?

I haven't touched an RPG Maker in too long, but in a moment of nostalgia and regret for missed opportunities, I wondered if maybe I could make a game... however, while I have a copy of RPG Maker VX Ace on my Steam Profile, awaiting my attention, I'm most familiar with RPG Maker 3... and while I have 2 and XP I don't expect to be able to make anything with them...

So, I thought about asking, which versions would people play if an interesting-looking game came out for them? Does the age of a version matter, are people still willing to try the older titles?

Re: So, which RPG Makers do people still play?

I still play RPG Maker Fes (a lot). The last time I've played RPG Maker 1 was a week ago (I play it on a PS1 emulator). I'm planning on buying RPG Maker 2 and 3 for my PS2. I'm not a PC gamer so I don't have any RPG Maker games for my PC. I will just check RPG Maker 2 and 3 because I'm gonna get them soon. I will also check RPG Maker 1 since I have played it recently. Of course I will check RPG Maker Fes!

I voted all of them except Fes, because I don't nor do I plan on owning a 3DS.
"Other" is 2k and 2k3. Those were officially released two or three years ago.

Re: So, which RPG Makers do people still play?

I picked the PC Makers. Games made on PC have a lot of potential and are easier to access than the Console Makers, so I usually just play those. I also chose Other because you didn't feature MV in the list.

Re: So, which RPG Makers do people still play?

If an interesting game was announced for RPG Maker 1, 2, and 3 were announced, I'd probably play it. It's a mix of nostalgia and familiarity. Especially if the developer is familiar with the maker, so they can push the limits of what it can do.

Re: So, which RPG Makers do people still play?

Yeah, I chose 'other' too because I use MV.

I'm surprised this place likes to pretend it doesn't exist. It's the first one you can make an honest-to-goodness stand-alone game with. Obviously you need to fidget with it a lot and use a ton of plug-ins, but when done well it's not apparent that you used a Maker at all.

Well, assuming you're making all of your own assets..

Re: So, which RPG Makers do people still play?

Should be noted that the seven options plus Other are the ones I chose for the poll because those are the ones we actually have forums for (though I condensed VX and VX Ace), and I wasn't quite willing to find out just how many RPG Maker titles there were - when I was more active the number was already considerable.

I did, that's what my comment was in response to, an explanation for why all those weren't on the poll.

I think there's still the Rpg Tsukuru GB 2, it has a very long title in japanese, so I can't memorize it.

Re: So, which RPG Makers do people still play?

I had been using VX Ace to make a game and I was liking what I was putting together. I did end up hitting a snag that brought things to a screeching halt. I do plan on getting back to it some day, but it will likely be a while. That and I've seriously have been thinking of doing away with building crafting thing I had going. Which is sad because it was heavily used in events and stuff, but in the whole feels more like clutter.

Re: So, which RPG Makers do people still play?

One of the hardest parts in making an RPG (in my opinion) is coming up with the title. That might sound dumb to you guys but it can be hard sometimes to come up with a name for your game.

RPG Maker 3 all the way! Love toying with it during my spare time, especially now that I'm in college. I also got RPG Maker 2 as a gift from an aunt waaay back in 2010, but it was too much for me at the time.If there was a 3D RPG Maker on the PC, I would buy it. So... RPG Maker 3 and 2!
