I didnt really think about it since i only got it for SotN, and for some reason i got bored with SotN quicker than i expected, compared to when i orignally played it.

I have Dracula X and I have no idea what happened to it. It disappeared somehow. Like some sort of evil magic.

You can download SotN anywhere and the superior Rondo of Blood is on Wii's Virtual Console.

BUT STILL, for Castlevania on the go, it's not bad.

I'm satisfied with good ones. Were there any? You know, ones that don't involve avoiding having to level a character by leveling them enough to pass a couple promotion exams so they could be reset again?

I hadn't yet gotten to the point in the game where I was remotely close to those kinds of high levels. Of course, that's probably due to dragging around all those new characters....

Ultimately, I just realized that even if I have gone through 20 or so playthroughs of FFT in its two iterations, I'd have more fun doing it again than slogging through item worlds and working to get palette-shifted versions of pre-existing classes.

And I was right; I did.

Well, if you cant understand the appeal of Disgaea, then why the hell are you even a gamer? But then again, you seem to like to argue for the sake of arguing, so, i'm not gonna try to convince you.

I can understand its appeal. I just like my SRPGs a bit more traditional (FFTA, FFT...probably, and Tactics Ogre when that is released, more than likely). Call me old-fashioned, but wacky mechanics and OCD hell do not a satisfying game make.

Re: another recommend me games thread (PSP edition!)

Perversion's post was very very close to correct. We just need to delete that typo where he put FFTA, since he must have just meant to type FFT twice. I mean, Disgaea is deeply flawed, but at least there was stuff to enjoy about it. The Tactics Advance series is just an abomination. Although it sounds like you haven't played FFT proper, so we can forgive a transgression so long as ignorance is its root cause.

And Jeroak, I understand the appeal of Disgaea. It appealed to me too, for a while. But ultimately it's made for a type of gamer I am not, one who is willing to sacrifice large chunks of time into mindless grinding. I was more willing to do that as a kid, when I had more time to spare and was more easily impressed by the shinies grinding games dangle in front of you to distract you from the tedium. Now I'm not as inclined to go down that road.

Re: another recommend me games thread (PSP edition!)

I'll give you the subpar story and I can give you the "judge" system (although I did not have as big an issue with it as most people did), but for me, what I liked best about FFTA was that there was not the character limit that FFT had, and I deeply enjoyed the gear-based upgrade system. That, to me, was enjoyable grinding...engaging in encounters to build the skill meter in weapons/armor so those skills became permanent, which allowed character upgrades. It's one of the deepest and most enjoyable I've experienced in an SRPG.

I liked FFTA over FFT. It was a lot less grindy. I never finished FFT because the sheer amount of grind and the amount of time it takes to finish a single battle was just dumb.

Yeah...if even you were apt to grind in FFTA (which I was), each battle was usually 5-20 minutes. Perfect for a handheld. And due to them being shorter, the game drew me in a bit more..."Oh, only 2 more encounters, and this skill will be permanent, and I can equip a new weapon." Inevitably after that, "Oh, now THIS character is really close, too. Might as well go for a few more."

That doesn't work so well if the battles are long and grueling.

EDIT @ Jehuty above: And this is worse, as we're now arguing about the relative merits of a GBA game. For more info, see spirit of fate's topic in the Site Info and Suggestion forum.

I like FFT and FFTA just fine.

                            Disgaea can suck an egg.

Yeah, that's exactly what I was thinking, Magus. FFTA debates seem to crop up every 7-10 months or so pretty much ever since I've been a member here.

And why is it that FFTA seems to be the one game I constantly feel I need to defend?

Oh for on topic: Steambot Chronicles: Battle Tournament

It really pales in comparison to it's older brother on the PS2, but it's still a nice game.
