Re: Your favorite vidya so far in 2010
Okay, sorry. From my perspective, 2010 will have a hard time measuring up to last year. Yeah, you've got Mario Galaxy 2....sequel....more of the same. You've got Red Dead Redemption...transplant the old west into a sandbox. Pokemon Heart Gold and Soul Silver...two more Pokemon games. Phoenix Wright...another Phoenix Wright game. I can go on.
So, yeah, there are highly-rated, critically-acclaimed games that are a lot of fun to play, but I've not seen anything legitimately NEW this year. Bayonetta is not NEW, but it's as close as we've come so far this year to a game trying something a bit different.
Yeah, it's a DMC clone, yadda yadda, but it instills a sense of fun and sexiness instead of an overload of brooding testosterone.
You can bring up the fact that I'm really looking forward to Etrian Odyssey III, which, yes, is probably more of the same with a few different play mechanics.
But for me, the only game that looks legitimately NEW is Child of Eden, and even that seems to be a spiritual successor to Rez.
Maybe I'm basing my above, "off year" comment on personal bias, but there really have not been too many games this year that have really wow'ed me. And moreso, there's been nothing this year so far like Flower at the front of the year, and Demon's Souls near the end of the year. So, yeah, personal bias to an extent again, as these are my number two and number three game of all time, but more to the point, both tried to do something significantly different than what is out there, and both succeeded admirably.
Ask me this same question later this year, and my, "off year" comment might change, as I've yet to play NMH2 and Sin and Punishment 2.
