    Re: Let's Play (With Draygone)

Here's the other episode for this week. Definately glad to be doing this, again. It's fun.

After making it out of the tunnel, we stall for time, because ten minutes does not an episode make. And during our stalling, we find that something is indeed not right in the country of Woodwind Prarie.

Also, RPGM3's nighttime is dark. I will need to experiment with my capture device's settings so you can actually see what I'm doing.

Yeah, I can't see on a lot of maps during Nighttime either. I remember waiting for morning to come when I was playtesting Crythania's game, because I wandered off and got really lost on the Field Map at night. I also remember docking Lausen several percentage points in the Field of Dreams contest because I had to change the map from "Night" to "Evening" in order to get a good view of any of the cool stuff he made. Interestingly, Obright and JPS didn't really have this problem, so I do wonder whether it could be partially based on your TV settings, or just your vision.

Good to see these back! And I'm hoping for another XP/VX LP in the near future!

Nice conclusion! Although, I could have sworn that the tunnel let you out facing the shelter. I think it even says that in the walkthrough.

Anyway - it sucks that I can't do the little comments during the video as the points come up, but here are a few points.

Regarding the bandits - logically, it would make sense for them to be there ambushing refugees who try to flee the Prairie into the safer Lake area.

The town of Arcilon opens after the events in the shelter. I know it's not very logical that the gates would be closed and all that, but it's a very useful way to prevent the player from skipping ahead in the story.

The Prairie is also a sample map. I don't believe any world map is custom in this game - I did custom maps in my first RPGM3 game, and they turned out absolutely terrible. I figured I'd take advantage of the presets this time around.

To the best of my knowledge, there are no enemy encounters on the dirt paths in the Prairie region. That's why your encounter rate was much lower while traveling between the shelter and the town.

Yes, the white town in the background is the village of the Rito Aeris. Good guess! Also, your conclusions about the Level:1 and Level:2 skills is correct as well. Level:1 has a single target, Level:2 is multi-target.

Looking forward to the next episode! The Prairie region is where things start to get interesting, especially after Odin's Tower.

It definately has to do with TV settings and stuff. Because the screen was actually darker on my computer monitor than my TV. Fiddling with the brightness during editing didn't do anything except cause the colors to bleed.

Yeah, the fact that Viddler decided to charge so freaking much for new members really sucks. Even worse, I recently went there to retrieve a video, and found that they even removed profile pages. All you get is a page listing your videos.

If I remember, I'll try to comment on this when I record.

I got really into the game, and recorded four episodes yesterday. We'll eventually be hitting up the local tower and killing the demon hiding there, but for now, here's the first episode for the week, freshly edited.

New party member! Whooooooo! Also, a town was destroyed.

              Re: Let's Play (With Draygone)

You got really into the game? That's a good sign! Definitely looking forward to what comes next!

A couple of comments in regards to the rings/equipment:
-Lestor can't equip the Life Ring because RPGM3 only allows a maximum of 5 characters to be able to equip any piece of equipment. There are 6 total characters, so I had to make some choices about who can equip what. I think the overall result is fairly balanced.
-As far as the effects of the rings, I mainly just wanted to use as many of the effects that RPGM3 offered (Swift, Escape, Enrage, etc).
-Without the Silver Rings, Ariel would typically have priority over Rothgar and Lestor as far as turn order

Speaking of turn order, I suppose it's possible to for AGI to have an effect on turn order if the difference between each character is significantly large. As in, if Ariel had AGI=60, Rothgar had AGI=30, and Lestor had AGI=10. I thought I understood AGI better than I actually did, apparently!

Not having encounters on the path is not unique to the Prairie, for the record. There were a few spots in the Lake that had no encounters, and I believe the path was one of them. As far as I can remember, no encounters on paths is universal for all world maps in the game, strictly for the player's convenience.

Also for the record, iron pyrite (or just pyrite) is the official name for fool's gold. In reality, it probably sucks as a material for making weapons, but whatever. If commercial RPGs can make weapons out of silver and gold (very soft metals overall), then fool's gold is not much more of a stretch!

Looking forward to the next episode!

                Draygone,
I just had the chance to watch this "Let's Play" episode of a A Light in the Sky. Very cool of you Draygone to be going through this as thoroughly as you are. I find myself laughing out loud at times with your little comments.
By the way, I'm pretty sure Regen is pronounce REE-JEN (as in regeneration).

                Chronicle Games,
It looks like you really put in the time to make a high-quality game. I really like the details you have in the caves (shelters) and the fact that you have different dialogue in the day and night time IS a very nice touch indeed. I noticed no typos. I love the way you can travel on a path without battles. That is so nice especially with the time it takes to maneuver around fields in RPG Maker 3. Cool!

I had spent so long planning to rant about how the gate was used to artificially block off an upcoming event, only for it to turn out that it wasn't. =P

Instead, we explore what's left of Arcilon before heading to the city of the Rito Aeris. Looks like we're going to be following a giant talking bird to that tower over there!

Wow, didn't expect another episode so soon!

                    Just a few notes:
Those events in Arcilon are not related to the battle with Chaos Earth. You might want to pop back in there when the weather clears up and see if there are any new developments...

As far as the town gates are concerned, you pretty much covered it in the video already, but yeah - RPGM3 allows you to control the opening and closing of the town gate, and create a message for when the gate is closed. An auto event would probably be better, since it's not very logical to do what I do with the gates, but it's one less event taking up memory.

The Life Ring heals a percentage of HP, so as you level up it'll heal a slightly bigger chunk. If I had to guess, I'd probably say it's about 5% of Max HP or something close. And yes, the song in the Rito Aeris village reminds me very much of the Gerudo theme from Ocarina of Time. There's a song in RPGM2 that sounds like the Gerudo theme as well, although more with the horn section as opposed to the guitar. Maybe Enterbrain got its influence from there? But somehow that song just seemed perfect for the birdmen village.

And to Pagerron, thanks a lot for the compliments! I'm glad you like the game.

Illogical, sure, but from a gameplay standpoint, it's purely aesthetic.

Hope you didn't get too used to having daily updates this week. There's one more episode I recorded after this, but I won't have it ready for a couple days.

After getting a little lost at first (you'll see why), we make our way to Odin's Tower, where we find that making our way up isn't very straightforward.

                          Another great episode, as usual!

Just a couple of notes this time:
-That Ring of David is actually one of the "enemy drop only" accessories, of which there are 15.
-That other staircase that you didn't go up only leads to an isolated room with a treasure chest.
-After Odin's Tower, Lestor and Chanticleer will begin to diverge as far as magic skills are concerned. Lestor will become more of a conventional cleric, while Chanticleer's specialty is Level:2 magic attacks.

I love the name of your next episode, and I'm guessing I know what it refers to. I hate how RPGM3 singles out events with that stupid ! logo, making it impossible to hide them among decorative objects. Still, I'm looking forward to seeing how you deal with the clues anyway.

One more comment that isn't a spoiler for you but would be for anyone who doesn't know what's coming up in the next room:

                          *** SPOILERS ***
You stopped just before a very interesting room in the dungeon, and one that is probably a little confusing. In all likelihood, you probably got a mask from that chest, but there's a 1/4 chance that it was a trap. It ultimately does not matter, but if you did happen to get the trap then the game difficulty increases a little bit. The masks will come into play a bit later.
                          *** END SPOILERS ***

Can't wait for the next one!

                              Re: Let's Play (With Draygone)

You seem to understand the puzzle with the treasure chest after having looked at the guide, but I'll explain it here anyway - the switches change the item inside the chest, and one of them makes it a trap. You can only get one item per playthrough, and that mask item will come into play later on in the Abandoned Cave dungeon.

The fourth floor puzzle, though trivialized by RPGM3's event detection, really seemed to trip you up. It's pretty simple - everything has to do with getting Odin's Key, nothing else. The riddles on the signs give you coordinates and an ordering. For example, the one about Autumn gives you the numbers 5, 1, and 3. That translates to the 5th column, 1st row switch is the third to be pressed. Similarly, the riddle about Winter gives the numbers 2, 3, and 2. That translates to the 2nd column, 3rd row as the second switch to be pressed. When the switches are pressed in the correct order, you get Odin's Key.

Don't be afraid to consult the guide, either. I'm glad you're getting use out of it. It took me a long time to write it, so please use it as much as you want!

As far as Chaos Flame and the other boss enemies, you seem to be having some pretty bad luck as far as getting to see all the attacks. Flame had three other attacks you didn't see - Torch (the one Chanticleer picked up), Enrage (ATK up), and Sharpen (Magic ATK up). Eh, you're probably better off not getting hit with those, anyway!

Looking forward to the next episode. The plot's about to get nice and twisty real soon.

Oh, really? Good to know. I was about to head back to Sant'Arte to see if one of those people in the school wanted it.

I am using it to quote how much HP all the enemies have, so there's that.
