    Re: IG Maker

Plus, hosting it or linking to an offsite host would eliminate people having by necessity to go to a site that supports piracy of the Maker software.

I'm pretty sure that place MADE the patch.

We cannot rehost it. It's theirs.

If you want to rehost it yourself, go for it, but I'm not stealing someone else's work and putting it on the site, even if they steal other people's work to put on their own site.

        Ohoooooooo

I didn't even think of fans making a patch for a program!

            Re: IG Maker

I take back everything I said, Mr. Foot. This has been the most productive IG Maker topic (for myself, anyway) that has been posted here. Namely because I can now finally run IG Maker on my laptop, so far without a hitch.

Poking around the trial right now. I'll again reiterate that the interface IS somewhat convoluted. Its saving grace is flowchart-esque debug mode that pops up if a part or parts are missing while trying to playtest. You can narrow down specifically where something is not working or is missing. Now THAT, I do like.

I already own game maker pro, but if you can help me figure this out, it might be better for my idea.

This reminds me of trying to figure out RPGM2. I know I can do it, but it'll take a bit of time. Also, from the "top" page, there's a link for downloads, and under IG Maker, there's a 500+ MB folder of assets for the game. This is going to be extremely helpful to me, as graphics are my weakpoint. Not that I necessarily want to release something using the default graphics. But they'll probably work really well as placeholders.

Gotta get in and learn the software some more, but I'm thinking of making a roguelike/dungeon crawl. I'm going to ask friends and whatnot to contribute some music, and there's a girl (yes, a real girl) I know from WKC that I might ask to help with contributing art.

Interesting that you'd think to do a dungeon crawler with IG Maker. I assume it's going to be a real-time action affair (because if not you really need to go with XP and even if it is there's always the Blizz Action Battle System). Do you think you'll be able to set up a decent Inventory system using IG? That would be pretty cool if they provide a good tool for quickly managing the stuff you're carrying.

                      Re: IG Maker

Well, roguelikes are semi-real time (each enemy takes a step for each step you take), and with the action-adventure "plug-in" (ie-16 bit Zelda type game), I think it's doable.

As for menus, I've not looked THAT far into the software yet.

I'd be really interested to hear about the kinds of stuff you accomplish as you go through your game making! Even just as you play around.

                          Re: IG Maker

As I've mentioned previously, I first need to wrap my head around the structure of the software, and how to link all of the individual components together. For an action-based game (shooter, platformer, top down action-adventure), it seems that there is a pretty good amount of flexibility in doing some interesting things. It's more a matter of taking all the individual component parts and combining them to do what you want to do.
