Re: My RPGM3 Project: Lironus Legacy

If the Lironus Saga were a series of novels (which I plan on doing), this RPGM3 project I am working on would be the sixth installment, with the first book being the rise of Leonis from adventurer to hero, the second, third, and fourth books comprising the Chronos Tome Trilogy, and the fifth book a short story about Barus Brownstone, which I actually made into a 5-hours-long RPG Maker VX game.

Current status on my project is 25.8% usage rate, with the introduction of now-King Leonis into the story and a cameo appearance by Lance from my completed VX project.

      Current Status: 27.8%.

I should also note another important part of the backstory:

The Magari are an order of sages led by archsage Lunaros. They lived in a temple not far from the capital city of Centallion. People looked to them for wisdom and guidance. They even helped Leonis on his quest to defeat the Dragon Prince, but during the war against Thanatos, the Magari suddenly sided with the Empire and used their divine powers against the people of Lironus. Leonis and company fought back and eventually forced the sages to surrender, but Lunaros has not been seen since then.

      Are there any more questions?

Re: My RPGM3 Project: Lironus Legacy

            No questions. Keep plugging away.

Actually, I DO have a question. Even though writing was (and kinda still is...in another forum far, far away~~) my thing, I'm personally more interested in game mechanics used in interesting ways if you are using RPGM3. It's commendable that you have a fully fleshed-out story/background/character development, which is what I was kinda prodding you to post (though, not necessarily in massive wall-o-text format), but I'd like to hear about any game mechanics that you are using that might go against the standard random battles, fetch quests, etc.

Do you have any minigames or intricate sidequests? Do you have any novel ways to level your characters up? Anything, mechanics-wise, that'll make people sit up and take notice?

If not, I'm not insinuating that you shoehorn something in. I'm just personally more interested in unique game mechanics than I am a unique storyline. Remember, though...that's just me. Dull gameplay, for me, at least, will not allow me to enjoy even a well-written story. And unfortunately, it's decently difficult to make RPGM3's default setup NOT dull and bland.

If I had played my first game, Series 1, and it was not me who had made it, even though the mechanics are interesting (alignment and guild systems, a minigame, and multiple decision branches that actually impact the story and one of its 17 endings), I personally would not even be able to enjoy any of that surrounded by 15-20 hours of the default battle system.

And again, this is just my perspective. I'm not suggesting overhauling your entire setup. Just wishing to point out that this late into RPGM3's life, I'm pretty sure a lot of users are a bit burned out on the default battle system. So if you are choosing to use it, I would suggest putting some small twist to other mechanics. A minigame, some puzzles, some quests with multiple outcomes depending on decisions made, etc, would do wonders to alleviate some of the tiredness of the default setup.

              Current usage rate: 36.2%

Due to the limitations of RPG Maker 3, I am not able to incorporate any unique battle systems or minigames into my project. I have, however, decided that there will be no random battles in the first field for balance purposes. Since the first third of the game takes place in the Lironus field, this will help the player get into the story much easier so that by the time he leaves for a more dangerous land that IS crawling with monsters, he'll have seen enough intrigue in the story to want to finish the quest.

The second field, the one I am currently working on, is the snowy one with the maze of trenches. To keep the terrain unique, I have discouraged the player from leaving the trenches by having an invincible monster encounter on the rocks.

Aside from the four main characters, there will also be a few special guest party members that replace one of the heroes for a short time in the story. The first of which is a merchant named Dalton, then, later on, the lupine wanderer Kurokami, and eventually the Hero King Leonis himself!

Re: My RPGM3 Project: Lironus Legacy

I like your idea about the invincible monster encounter to discourage the player from going where he/she shouldn't. Maybe you could have one very small section, where if they do wander off the beaten path, they actually get through to a secret area that gives power ups.

Having party members switch out from time to time is a good idea. I wish that RPG Maker 3 didn't send the items away with the person who is being switched out, but oh well.

I must say that I'm much more interested in reading updates that have written out information as opposed to just percentage of usage rate.

Keep up with this thread, man, it's an interesting read for sure.

I'm right at the point in the game where the first major plot twist will be revealed. I suppose I should just tell you everything, since it's not like there's any way to share an RPGM3 game online.

                      42% complete.

Is there any RPG Maker where you can change the battle system calculations without having to make one from the ground up?
