    Re: Academagia

But it also is aimed at children young enough that reading isn't as easy as it is for an adult.

      Re: Academagia

I thought it was aimed at like 11-13 year olds. A lot of the younger audience of the Harry Potter books. Which I would think would be more than old enough to understand something like this.

I'm weird I guess. When I think a parent playing side-by-side with a child I think 6-9 year olds at least.

A lot of these edutainment things are more aimed at younger kids.

I guess I just grew up on text-based games so I don't know any better!

            Re: Academagia

As the developer, I just wanted to quickly chime in and note that the game is 9+. We didn't create the game as edutainment -it's a very deep RPG and life simulation (not that that *can't* be educational, of course)- but the age range was selected for the ability to read.

Only a few hours left! (12 am EST)

Here is another full review, this one a negative one.

              http://www.diygamer.com/2010/08/toil...emagia-review/

I'll repost the following from the GFaqs message board:

Before you purchase the game, make sure you know that help is available. Be it on Academagia's site, this board, or you know, the MANUAL, there are ways to ease into the game's experience.

The aim is life simulation. Seriously. There are many events, and most are random. You can't really plan ahead for the unforeseen future, just like in real life. In this game you may play however you want. But with every freedom comes a consequence. You don't have to study, but you will fail exams. You don't have to make friends, but be prepared for a rather detrimental social life.

And, in the case of the reviewer's problems, you don't have to train in your skills. But that means failing when those skills are needed to overcome an obstacle forced upon you.

Make no mistake- you can't get a game over. You will just have to roll with the punches if a problem occurs and requires you to be proficient in a skill you did not foresee would be useful. Nobody's perfect.

And, to make it more clear- READ THE MANUAL. The game is deep, but the learning curve is not impossibly steep. You'd be amazed at how easy it really is to get the hang of.

                Another one.

And this game seems to be doing pretty well so far.

The thread for Academagia at Something Awful! Some negative feedback, some really like it, and some have stories of their experiences. I like the one about the turtle familiar's adventures, myself.
