That was sort of weird sounding, I hope you know what I meant when I said that.
I haven't played Mortal Kombat for about 11 years, but in RPGM2 you pick character models and can color several different parts of the model the way you choose. The graphics were blocky and very simple, but I don't see any reason this can't be done in a good-looking 3D format, a la 3.

Yah I have RPG Maker 2, what I was trying to say was that we could use parts from the other models and attach them to the model we chose for the base. Then we could have that color feature in there.

I see, I misunderstood what you meant by "choose and recolor."

I imagine this could be done, at least with little things like hats or jewelry. If we're talking substituting a character's torso with another character's torso, you get something that might be hard to animate well. Still, it's an intriguing idea.

Well, as I posted my idea, I thought about how crummy it would look if a giant troll had tiny human arms. It wouldn't fit on the model. Unless... What if you could resize the parts in something like a returning VFX editor and move the parts to fit?

I really don't see why they couldn't make something with the ease of 3 and options of 2. Hell, I'd be more than willing to give 2 a shot if it wasn't for the damned interface, with all the submenus and whatnot. I don't see why they could not put the options of 2 in a 3-D environment, and have a simple to use interface. Would that be so hard?

That is exactly how I feel! I sometimes forget what one menu is for.

                yes.

RPGM2's graphics are the way they are (complete with the blurry motion) because the PS2 had to be able to handle anything the user threw at it in the scripting despite it's pathetic RAM. power was the focus of 2. the ability to do damn near anything you desire limited the graphic engine. other games have much better graphics because they're set in stone. the player doesnt have the ability to throw giant farm animals onto the screen and have them do a dance and then explode into a shower of infants or whatever else they feel like. RPGM has to take that into account.

This is why everyone HATES when people just suggest "the graphics of 3 with the power of 2!", because it's not that simple. it'd be nice if it was, but thats just not the way software works. if you want to have a better graphic engine, the game creation engine has to be limited so the system can still process everything. something has to take priority.

Even ignoring the vast interface, there are a LOT of commands in RPGM2 that wouldn't be easy to learn even if they were easy to find.

                      The IDEAL FORMULA:

Give us a PS3 or WII RPG Maker 4 with:

-The power and flexibility of RPG Maker 2 + a freeform elevation editor. If someone wants to use the scripting engine to create the next Final Fantasy Tactics, it should technically be achievable.
-The approximate graphical quality of RPG Maker 3
-A "create-a-character" workshop where you basically can put together any roughly humanoid-shaped character model from a large variety of body shapes, clothes, body features, and color choices, which a huge amount of 3-D games have already had for about the last 10 years (!!!). Come on, my 10-year old crappy PSX "WWF RAW" game has this and RPG Maker doesn't!? Also, any model can be controlled on the field
                      -A simple music maker
-An equal number of graphics sets for at least 4 different genres: Fantasy, sci-fi, modern, and horror
-The ability to share your creations on the internet right in the game

The third one and the last one are so long overdue, I underlined them.

I used to think that too but then I realized how many games do you know that let you have more than two or maybe four created characters running at the same time? I can't think of any. And if you could do that for NPCs in RPG Maker that'd add up to a lot of models the game would have to piece together when it loaded up an area. And that's while it's rendering the environment as you built it and keeping track of your events. Just too impractical. At most they could let you customize the party but only them.

Not true. If they make RPG Maker 4 a PS3 or Wii title, both consoles vastly surpassing the processing power of PS2, and keep the graphical detail at about the same level as RPG Maker 3, I can't imagine it posing any kind of a chore.

so basically the power of 2, with the beauty of 3?

hmm.. it seems that you're asking too much from the software.

i think most of us demand too much from agetec/enterbrain. it's like most of us expect the end all of end all rpg makers, which really isnt possible.

they made rpgm 2 to have more power, but people complained about its complexity, then they came out with 3 which was suspose to be easier, but then people complained about its limitations.

each individual person has their ideal rpgm, and it seems some of us get disappointed when the new software released isnt their perfect rpgm.

i saw im happy with what they gave us, and its up to your creativity to get above and beyond the limitations. it makes creating the game a better experience.

but just for fun, i'd say if i could have my ideal rpg maker, i'd just rpg maker 1 with a few add-ons. maybe more pre-set dungeon and character data and more in-battle commands, and maybe make the encounters more customizable in the system commands. hell rpg maker 1 is all i need now, so its all good forme.

i generally find it impossible to have a rpgm that can make a ff tactics sort of battle system and have infinite sprite possibilites with all of these commands that make the game 1% better overall.

seriously. and it's so damn vague. agetec and enterbrain HATE seeing that "suggestion" posted over and over. it tells them absolutely nothing.

As long as we're at it, my ideal RPGM-

X360. (I don't even have one, so you know it's unbiased. ) A graphics bump like usual - Final Fantasy 10 level would be nice. Bumping up of memory limits, although with more focus on RAM (to avoid slowdown) then total data of a game. Full camera control and a widescreen box viewing format to make cutscenes (opening cutscenes of this level would go so far to make it look professional.) Killing some dumb limits (allow NPC models to be used for plain events. With that the 100 character limit is perfectly reasonable) and something like the VFX editor but next-gened. Xbox live support (I'm sure it'd cost MS points to host your game, but it'd be worth it for full games.) and new models and stuff available for download (again, for MS points.) I'd hit it.
