    An RPGMaker 3 Cutscene

Well, the Holidays (as defined by Time Off of Work) are winding down and I made this nifty Cut Scene for my RPGMaker 3 game. I was hoping I'd make more progress toward having a presentable demo or maybe even a finished game... But I did this instead.

I used this image because I pressed the button too quick and it's hard to read that the first line is "HELLO MY BABY" (being spoken (sung?) by a frog, I trust you all know where this is going...)

As usual, that's a temporary link. If it expires and you want to see it, post here!

It is a 26 MB mpg file inside an 8 MB Compressed Folder.

    Comments welcome.

    Peace.

      Ummm, yeah.

I have been so used to making this game that I forgot maybe I should mention that if the idea of a Clown Priest demanding Sodomy for an entrance fee offends you, you will be offended.

That is commonplace in this game... Clowns want sodomy for everything...

      Thanks for pointing that out!

I thought it would be the priest part that...nevermind.
Nice cutscene, you're paving the way for RPGM3 to be less crappy.

The steer well clear of The Clown Killers when I release it!

That is such a mild scene it did not even occur to me to place a warning until Hitogoroshi commented.

It's the scripting technique of having the player not be able to control the character throughout that makes it count as a cut scene. After accepting the Clown Priest's offer you are not in control of the chicken again until he leaves Michigan (Home of J. Frogs).

I have heard people complain that cut scenes were not possible in 3, or that you had to use the Storyteller (I may have even said that myself at one point!) (Hey... I've been wrong before you know) (Really!).

With this trick you can do a nearly proper cut scene. Notice that the original chicken is replaced with a black one for the scene (the white chicken interfered with the text... white on white is hard to read!) and he is back after it ends!

A little hoopy, but not that difficult.

I trust what I did is obvious to those who use RPGMaker 3.

If not, maybe a thread in the workshop forum is called for!

            Peace.

As you know already Rodak, that doesn't impress me in regards to 3 in the least. But you're one of the only people who can make a dull tool(compared to 2) make great shows like that. Loved the frogs, and the whole sodomy thing was great(I'm pretty old, so it didn't phase me).

It's High Praise whenever Crimson Knight says anything non-negative about RPGMaker 3!

                  Thanks.

I think the whole sodomy thing came about from my initial (and continuing) dissatisfaction with 3. I paid $50 for it and I intend on getting my money's worth! Being really offensive is my way of rebelling against the limitations.

Maybe not... remember The Clean Underwear Quest?

Anyway; Libra: Apart from commenting that it must be nice to just have to ask for something like that in order to get it (Women have that ability, can't hold it against them too much...), I'm curious as to why you mentioned it here?

Do you have better stuff to show us? I hope so. Not enough innovations are cropping up for such a new system!

If you wanted to try this game, I may have a playable, but unbalanced, demo available soon. I get another shortened work week next week (and may take The Pagan New Year off - January 4th- that will help) and intend to put in some more work on this so I can return to work on my RPGMaker 2 projects! Videogamedrome is nearly done and The Quest awaits...

                  Peace.

                      Are you that sheltered?

I have been wanting to get a Dexdrive but if this game and games like start being released for RPG Maker 3 I might just have to change my mind and get a Maxdrive.

That was hilarious Rodak, keep it up.

                          Re: An RPGMaker 3 Cutscene

I was trying to get a passable demo out by years end (and since I do not celebrate New Year's until January 4th at 3:00 GMT, I have a little extra time) (That's Perihelion... The One True New Year's Celebration to us Born Again Pagans).

There is just so much to adjust for a demo... I can't leave half finished puzzles lying around, and need to block access to those areas.

I'm also unsure how to end the demo.

                          I'll come up with something.

3 is a new-ish maker at this point and more and better stuff will eventually appear. But I assure you that after this game is done I'm going back to RPGMaker 2! Now there's a tool that makes this cut scene as unimpressive as Crimson Knight said. I will still answer people's questions about 3 in the workshop forum, but I just can't see me wanting to make another game for this cumbersome and limiting game.

                          Peace.

                          MOO!

                            Re: An RPGMaker 3 Cutscene

The biggest problem with making a cutscene in RM3 is the inability to move characters. If they had fixed that and thrown in the ability to make your main character invisible, it could make the best looking cutscenes of any of the RPG Makers, 2 would still beat it hands down with what you could do in those cutscenes of course. I made a really good opening for my Living Legend game. It was a combination of cutscenes, storytellers, and battles.

I wonder if it looks just as good with a human figure for the main character.

As for characters moving, it's really all in what you want the scene to accomplish. The storyteller leaves a bit more to the player's imagination, while a complicated dialogue scene in a closed space may be better handled by either using the cut scene method or by using the show dialogue command.

The cutscene probably isn't a good idea unless if you're not using a ton of other characters, as you have to have a new character for every character in every scene. Either that or you reserve it for special scenes.
