    State of the Studio

    It's been a while.

I've had a couple of projects that I keep teasing, but haven't completed, and I realized that I can't let them languish forever.

I've been getting frustrated with some of the weaknesses of RPG Maker 3, and my great experience in the last month trying out RPG Maker XP has kind of put the nail in the coffin. It's time to move on.

So with that said, if you were wondering about any of my current RM3 projects, here's where they stand:

    Panacea - Cancelled
My main RPG project, I've been working on Panacea on and off since 2006, and it's the game I've been referring to when I've given examples of how I do different things in RM3. Between the Data Usage and other limitations, it was starting to become clear that I couldn't complete this game, no matter how badly I wanted to, and as a result, I think it's time to put it on the shelf forever.

It's not wasted time by any means, though. The Item Creation system, Ability Trees, and strategic Skill system will substantially be used in my new XP project, where I feel the execution of these mechanics will be a lot smoother and far more fun for the player. I'm even going to translate several of the puzzles and a few of the characters from Panacea over to my XP game.

It's going to be tough, because it's much more of a freeform, go-at-your-own-pace kind of RPG than Panacea was, but I really think I can make this work and show y'all a good time when it's done (which won't be for quite a while, as I'm still learning the software). Once I've made some good progress, I'll spill some of the details.

Perversion & Paper - This Year
Despite the dearth of updates, I have been working on this. There are so many great moments in that game that just make me smile to think about, which is why I can't let it just sit in a buggy state. Most of the bugs (including the game-crashing ones Valk mentioned) have been identified and fixed.

But I'm no closer to figuring out why the main "shell" events sometimes break. I'm probably going to need to rewrite that whole structure, which will take around 10 hours if I'm lucky. I'm kind of waiting to feel that burst of motivation so I can tackle it. As soon as I do, P&P will be on its way!

As far as an enhanced version with the Obright, Gloom, and Toaster events that currently aren't in the game, the chances of that depend on how popular P&P ends up being, and how easy it will be to integrate them into my "shell" code.

    Hell's Dining Room - Final
The enhanced version I released last year is most likely the last version I'm going to produce. I think it's a pretty damn fun game and if you've had the chance to download it, I hope you're enjoying it!

I wanted to release one more version with 3 dining rooms to progress through (and entirely different diners in each - I was looking forward to including solo diners like Ruben Studdard and Disgaea's Laharl, and parties like "The Four Wise Men", a group of clergy from all different religions), as well as a way to track your Special Dish count. Unfortunately, I took a look at the feasibility, and I'd essentially have to input every single event again for each subsequent dining room. This would be upwards of 50 hours worth of duplicating things I've done before, and I didn't get into RPG Maker so I could do a bunch of busywork.

Thanks so much to everyone who's followed me, played my games, or offered encouragement. I'll do my best to not let you down.

How Badly Do You Want It? (VX Ace) is now available for download! - no outside software necessary.

    Awesome!

And it's too late to let me down. It's unpossible.

      Hey Wavelength!

It's good to see an update man.

I'm really glad that you are going to see Perversion and Paper through to completion. I'm looking forward to that.

To anyone who hasn't played Hell's Dining Room, I really recommend that you check it out.

I'm with Obright. You can't let us down. It's cool that you are still planning on making games with RPG Maker XP too!
