Yeah that was a faux pas on my part. How you drew the dude's body inside my armor guy pic made my day, though. It's really funny looking.

i think your drawings are really awesome but gloomy's advice is equally excellent.

        Salamander,

These are good efforts. You have talent and drive, keep it up. Also, heed Gloom's advice, it is that kind of advice and concrete examples that will take your art to the next level.

If you want to draw quality fantasy creatures, you still need to understand how muscles interact with bones and whatnot.

Honestly, I don't see what's so glaringly wrong about the dragon's bottom jaw.

Of course, if you're simultaneously seeing underneath it and the inside of the mouth, it would be funky. But I merely assumed it was the left side of the jaw in view, not the bottom.

What does confuse me is where the neck ends and the jawline begins, however.

I do like the shading on the horns.

I think the art's very promising, despite it being standard fantasy fare. But maybe you'll grow out of it and develop a style unique to you.

I didn't mean to offend you with the anime comment, but it is true. I am glad I was told early on, so I could start expanding my horizons. In my college, if you even sketch anime, they wont let you through to the degree, and every one of my animation professors refuse to even look at anime. It isn't that anime is bad, its that they see so much of it that they would rather see something with a personal style.

Anime, atleast generic anime can be easily taught out of a book, but what can't be taught is your personal style and feel for the drawings. Nearly all companies wouldn't hire an american to draw anime, and honestly, styles like in Wind Waker and Okami and such are a lot more appealing than anime that tries too hard to be serious.

My suggestion, start trying to draw outside of what you see in the daily media. We have some great artists with their own style at the pavilion, check out Gloom, Loki, Caciss, and Sejon (I missed several, but those are a few off the top of my head) work for some good ideas.

Note to self: Don't attempt a background you know you can't pull off.

The only decent looking background I can do so far is a grassy field.

Those legs are too small! arms extend to around mid-thigh straight down.

And I feel honored for being mentioned by D2 :O

Awesome detail in that mechanical suiting. Beautiful eyes and face. Excellent, subtle shading. Proportions are a little off, but keep up the good work.

Before you say something, this isn't Cloud. It isn't even a bad*** Tidus. It's a Jrock guy, and it's just a coincidence they all look the same...

Also, just wanted to let everyone know I won't be doing anime anatomy anymore. If I do, it's by accident, and just a transitional thing as I work further towards realism(ishness). I'm hittin the books hard on realistic human drawing; I've spent the whole week just sketching all the people from my sister's seventeen magazine, and I hope it will help me. I've went back and looked at all my older or previous anime drawings (which I thought were good) and they look really ugly, now that I am in a different artistic mindframe.

It's a good idea to learn drawing by starting with realism. After you've laid a good foundation, you can start experimenting.

Though when drawing from pictures, they're already laid out in a two-dimensional plane. Your drawings will look flat and you'll develop bad technique. Study people in real life, get naked and stand in front of a mirror and move around, see how your muscles interact. Try and take a figure drawing class if you can, they're a world of help in learning proper anatomy.

I didn't say draw realistic forever, Glooms. You're better off learning how to draw realistic first. A good cartoonist understands how the body works, and the fastest way to learn the is by drawing realistic.

Also, you can have a style while still drawing realistic, gloomy

One of my life drawing professors put it eloquently: Learn the rules before you break them.

Realism is great for practice as it trains your eye and heightens your understanding of lighting, perspective, anatomy, etc. However, I chime with Gloomy in that it's ultimately boring. Technically impressive? Absolutely. But it will almost always lack any kind of personality or individuality (mind you -- there are rare exceptions).

The same goes for drawing in a generic anime style. You're not adding anything unique. At least with realism, you can learn a lot of useful things along the way, which you can modify in ways you see fit as you grow comfortable enough in developing your own style.
