Total game revamp

After reading the Dungeon and Dragons: Dungeon Master's Guide, I realized how bad my game was. To me there seemed to be no really major threats to drive the story on, and little if any interaction with the outside world. So I'm making some major changes.

- Westly is getting a new name and is no longer a scout but a barmaid, who is really an informant.

- Two groups are in a power struggle. One wants to revive and ancient monster in the hopes that it will stop it's enemies, while the other group is trying to stop them believing that the monster will lead the world into total darkness.

- Po is no longer going to be a character. Instead Riven the wolf demon will have a bigger role in the game.

- Chen Zen will not only be a monk. but at one point was a ninja.

- There will also be more character interactions with NPCs. Plus I will be throwing the player right into the action.

The game is still being called Sword of Vengeance, and the main part of the story will focus on finding a way to stop the death of the main character who pulled the Sword of Vegeance from it's resting spot before it destroys him.

Any suggestions on a new name for Westly ( something to do with nature ) and any for the name of the two feuding groups?

so far i see a ton of overdone cleches and not much for original ideas. the d and d guide is a good way to gather ideas on how a world should be built; not as a cookie cutter idea center. take whats written and build your own ideas, add twists to tired cleches, and make sure your game is reflective of your vision.

many games fail to gather support because there is no originality, drive your game with twists, intreauge, stuff that pushes the player to think. if you must use a cleche then use it in a way people dont expect, twist it into something fresh.

for example perhaps the sword of vengence could be not a physical sword but a personal vendetta, a group of people, or a state of the world.

maybe westly could be an interesting crossdresser who has tendencies to flaunt his sexuality?

maybe the monk could be a failed martial artist who refuses to accept his short comings, perhaps even a deadbeat father whos using monk hood to escape his child support.

even having the two main groups not be good or evil but blurring the line between them, showing the player that neither side is clearly the enemy but rather just different views of the same reality.

spice up your game, dont follow the lame path that other rpgs have fallen into. the real wining rpgs are ones that shater the norm and create something truly unique that follows old rules and yet tweaks them into something original.

Thanks for the advice. I am trying to make the game different. For example the Character Chen Zen use to be a ninja, but after doing a terrible deed decieded to escape his past by becoming a monk. However eventually his past does catch up with him. The main focus on the story is trying to find a way to purify the sword so it does not kill the main character Westly, who is actually a female (sorry I did not make that clear). With the two opposing groups they have different views on how to save the world. They are really in the story to make the world seem more life like, and neither side is actually the enemy.

That's pretty cool that you decided to revamp your story. Never be afride to try and improve something.

I'm really glad that you decided to make your game using RPG Maker 2.

RPG Maker 2 is the best one for my game. It allows for a lot more creativity and character expression then any of the other makers out there.

Totally. I love how much potentional there is for creating games. The only downside is that there are no tutorials in the game.

Yeah, that is the major draw back to the game. Fortunetly, we have the pav and The Domain of Doan the Nado to help us when we get stuck.

I've finally got some time to work on the game. Here are some of my new ideas.

I was thinking about making a script that would work with the battle system that would allow the weather to affect the hero characters . I think it would just make the game more life like. Here is what I have so far:

If it was raining it would bring the character's strength down.
Cloudy or sunny weather would not have any effect on the characters.
Fog would bring accuracy down.
And snow would bring agility down.

I was thinking about using the sort branch script and apply ifs to run the script.

I'm also thinking about making a script that would allow outside influences to affect the party. There again using the sort branch option. For example loosing hp by touching a poisonous plant, getting hit by lightening which would lower mp, or by having a thief steal and item or goal from a party member.
