This is a new idea I've been throwing around for a while, so I thought I'd get a little work done on it today. I liked the concept, so I may go ahead and make this a full-fledged release.
Frail is a game I'm making for RPG Maker 1. I was inspired to make this game from Punch Out. In that game, after winning Title Defense, you open a new mode, called Mac's Last Stand. In this mode you fight random opponents, with a catch: lose three times, and you retire, cutting off Career mode from that profile forever. I personally love difficult challenges in games, and well as the bragging rights you get for beating such a tough game. I want to create that sort of game. I want to make a game for the Maker community that poses a great challenge, and gives a sense of accomplishment to the successful players to wear like a badge of honor.
The game is a bit more maze-like than platformer. Your simple goal is to reach the end of the level. No jumping, no switches, no gimmicks. Just you, the end of the level and an endless horde of enemies as you try to escape Hell. But the soul is a fragile thing, and herein lies the game's hook: die once, and it's over. No extra lives at all. One hit and your down. You'll have a black screen that you cannot escape, and you have to reset the system to try again.
Only the hardcore need apply.
I'd like to release this some time this year, for both the Mag and the Pav. It will be rated M.
Feel free to discuss. I'll be glad to answer any questions.
