    Re: The Official Final Fantasy XIV Topic

    All that video does is confirm that the combat is a snore fest. 2 different attack animations, and pretty damn slow combat, and this is from a bit higher character than some of the other videos I have seen. In the other videos it was even SLOWER, I can't even imagine trying to level up high enough to get to this pace of combat.

      This is the first video of it after they made adjustments to make the battles faster.

          I think this just proves that I am just plain spoiled by modern MMOs. The combat just looks so slow compared to other western games.

          I mean you can crash into enemies and stride around, encounters with non-boss enemies are slow when they last more than 10 seconds.

          Then again, it's a classic Mario versus Sonic argument. Sure, Sonic is faster, but Mario has a lot more to offer.

            Different spokes for different folks.

            Just look at EVE. You'd think it'd be killer fast space fighting action but it's the slowest MMO on the market. And many gamers in their 30's-40's adore it.

            I played City of Heros when it first came out. It was a fun romp for a little while, but the amount of stuff to do is limited at best. Go here, kill enemy, come back. A very casual experience that didn't tie me in for very long. Not saying it hasn't changed to include more stuff. I'm sure it has. But the basic formula is probably still ever-present.

            I'm actually more excited to try out FFXIV's crafting classes. Making big gil by being a skilled craftsman sounds very appealing to me. And killing a few mobs on the way wouldn't hurt either.

              Pretty much what it comes down to. If you want a slow methodical combat MMO that you have to take a long time to get anywhere. Go with the Asian-made MMOs for that kind of stuff. If you want instant-gratification MMOs, western-made stuff is your bag.

              If you want just plain horrible MMOs go with the Europe market.

                    Re: The Official Final Fantasy XIV Topic

                    PC version out in September. Regular, and collector's edition.

                    http://kotaku.com/5576618/final-fant...-release-dates

                    The first steps players take into the world of Eorzea will be wide ones, as Square Enix reveals two September release dates for Final Fantasy XIV on the PC; one for the normal edition, and an earlier one for the lavish collector's edition.

                    That's right, Final Fantasy XIV for the PC is coming out on September 22 in collector's edition form, and again on September 30 as a standard edition release. Why the discrepancy? Because Square Enix is smart.

                    Most MMO games these days offer early access in some form or another, and Final Fantasy XIV is no different. Fans that purchase the collector's edition will score a free week of game play. Unlike other MMOs, which make players download the entire game client online in order to participate, Final Fantasy XIV gives its early access players an actual disc. Good on them!

                    While an eight day head start is more than enough to justify the extra $25 for the collector's edition in many fans' eyes, Square Enix has loaded up the $75 box with exclusive goodies. Here's what's inside:

                    In-Game Item – Collector's Edition preorders will include a reward code to receive an exclusive in-game item, the Onion Helm.*

                    Early Access– Play 8 days prior to the release of the Windows PC Standard Edition (timing of access subject to initial server capacity).

                    Behind the Scenes DVD – Get an insider look at the making of FINAL FANTASY XIV, with exclusive video content, interviews and more in this special documentary DVD.

                    Security Token – A FINAL FANTASY XIV–branded Security Token for use with your regular password.

                    Travel Journal – Record your travels in this beautifully bound journal filled with pages of never-before-seen concept art.

                    Right of Passage – Redeem a voucher to receive your fully-personalized Right of Passage Certificate, each stamped with a unique serial number.

                    Amano Cover – Special PC Collector's Edition illustration by renowned artist Yo****aka Amano.

                    That's a rather nice deal. Plus, everyone who buys either version will of course receive one free month of play, before having to pony up the lower-than-average $12.99 a month subscription fee.

                    And in case this wasn't enough good news, the beta test for Final Fantasy XIV is scheduled to begin early next month, and next month starts *checks watch* tomorrow.

                    Both versions of Final Fantasy XIV for the PC are now available for preorder at most major retailers.

                          Re: The Official Final Fantasy XIV Topic

                          PS3 release is delayed 6 months. Probably so they have the kinks worked out.

                          You have to pay $3/mo for any extra characters, and $1/mo extra for a mule character that will stay logged in to bazaar your goods even if you're logged out. This... does not 'solve' anything. It just gives SE more money. If they really wanted to 'solve' the issue of mule characters, all they'd have to do is

                          A: allow equipment sets to be stackable.
                          B: allow small items to be stacked up to 99. No more of that retarded stack of 12 per ingredient
                          C: give players a venue for bazaaring their goods along with the Auction House, instead of forcing players to be online or have a mule in order to set up shop.

                          But I guess that's too much for their poor servers to handle, eh?

                          Anyway, the PC specs:

                          * Windows XP/Vista/7
                          * Intel Core 2 Duo 2GHz or AMD Athlon X2 2GHz
                          * 2GB of RAM
                          * 15GB HDD space
                          * NVIDIA GeForce 9600 512MB or ATI Radeon HD 2900 512MB and DirectX 9.

                          The special edition also includes a buddy pass for a free trial.

                            Doesn't sound too bad. I don't mind waiting, so long as I can still play the beta.

                            Nooo...

                            For $3 extra instead of $1 like before, they should at least let us take those extra characters around as NPC party members. Even just 1 extra like the adventuring fellow, only they'd be around for as long as you wanted them to be instead of a time/enemy limit.
