    Quitting RPG Maker 3

I've finally given up on using RPGM3 due to all it's limitations. This game blocked me at every turn, and after spending 3 days trying to configure a city to have enough CPU to accommodate both the buildings I need and having a handful of people, finally gave up.

I realize that there is a limited amount of space in this game. However Enterbrain crammed so much premade junk into the disk that much wasn't allowed for creativity. Instead of having a full example game along with lots of premade fields, dungeons, and towns, I'd rather have had more variety in skins, people, ect.

Another problem was that Enterbrain put a lot of unneeded limitations in their all ready limited database. As an example, allow me to give a character any weapon without having to use a cheat. Or let me list any item I make as a treasure so that I can have a "ticket" system. Allow me to set up my own markets. Better yet, just give me a blank field to set up my own towns and allow me to chose from any of the buildings and items, not just some certain types. Maybe I don't want a tree placed in that spot.

Finally both a password and a random number generator feature would've really helped.

I commend Enterbrain for trying to simplify the RPGMaker series. However things don't have to be complicated to have greater variety.

I bought this game the very day it came out so I'm not trying to be a newbie trolling and yes I know RPGM2 and RPGMXP has greater flexibility. However after all this time this game's limitations has sapped and warp my stories to the point that I just don't care anymore about RPGM3. Yes I could just stuck to the tired old cliché about the wonder boy from a medieval village destined to slay a dragon in he nearby cave. But where's the creativity in that? Before it came out I was really psyched about the 3d aspect and hope Enterbrain doesn't abandon the premise. Thus I suggest in RPGM4 that they...

    - Keep the 3D
    - Keep the simplicity
    - Shorten the example game and replace the premade elements with more variety of skins, people, ect
    - Take out the artificial limitations

    Sincerely, Wayne

Agetec (there's no h) didnt make the title. Enterbrain did. Agetec just localized it. but your complaints are valid regardless.

so far i maintain that out of all of them, the first rpg maker is the most sucessful and easy to use, plus is designed with enough holes to break down alot of the limits imposed on it. perhaps this was due to luck or good programing, i am not sure.

some people find the second one better becuase they are good with coding, i am not good at it at all and im having space issues, plus map problems due to limits on what can go in each space.

Thank you Ωbright for the sig fix!

I personally love RPGM2, and am trying to learn to like RPGM3, but can't. RPGM1 is pretty nice, though, much better than 3.

I like RPGM3. Lot of limitations, granted (how easy would it have been to use the character models as event graphics?) but if you work with them, you can make some pretty fun games.

Yeah, that's why I'm trying to get used to it.

I personally think that RPGM3's would have been better if it was hack and slash. It already had the dungeon crawler feel to it. With some of the giant monsters, that would have been pretty cool. I could even look over the limitations if they did that. One can dream.... one can dream.

I don't really think the premade stuff take up as much space as you might think. And personally I think that an RPGM without a decent example game is like a Mario game without jumping. Then again, RPGM3's sample game was anything but decent.

I'll never understand why they didn't include stuff that's generally expected in an RPGM. Stuff such as being able to command characters to move around. Stuff such as some sort of camera movement commands. There are options in RPGM1 that aren't available in any way in RPGM3.

Not that I hate RPGM3. It's just that one isn't really capable of doing much with RPGM3. For being an RPG Maker, you can't really make much an RPG at all beyond the absolute basics.

                    Update

Just to give an update I've download the trial version (30day license) of RPGMXP. It's late tonight so I really don't have time to preview it but I'm kinda excited about it. As to RPGM3 I r4ally don't hate it but just can't use it. I could have just stuck to a basic story but I rather spend my time on a more flexible editor doing my stories. Unfortunatly it'll probably be a while before I can afford to obtain the full license (60 bucks is kinda steep for me), however I still have my notes from the game I was working on so things should go faster when I do finally get it.

In a lot of ways 3 reminds me of what Final Fantasy Mystic quest was to the Final Fantasy franchise for some reason. Hopefully 4 will be a 3d improved with our suggestions which I'm looking forward to.

It really wansn't originally made as part of the main RPGM series, so you're kind of right.

All I ask of those who are skeptical of RPGM3's capabilities:
                      DO NOT SELL IT!

Someday someone's going to do something really cool with it. And if you don't have it, you're going to miss out.

I actually have a fairly ambitious project in the works for it (Aside from Forest of Deceit). Let's just say I'm pushing the envelope big time, and hopefully there'll be someone able to appreciate it when it's done.

I'm with tjoris on this one. I can understand the frustration with the limitations of RPG Maker 3. I've complained about them myself, but don't sell it! At least, if you're not going to be creating something with it, you can download the games that other people have created and get some enjoyment off of another person's creativity (even with this limited game).

I'm looking into buying RPG Maker 2, but I have one question, is it really customizable? For instance would it be possible for me to make a futuristic themed game on RPG Maker 2?

Well, yes, you could. It would, however, take a bit of work. Rodak, for example, made the Starship Enterprise in RPG Maker 2.

You're sorta limited on how futuristic you could make it look. There's only a few high-tech monsters and characters, and the block limit sorta makes it difficult to make a futuristic city. Maybe a futuristic village.
