Anything Goes Contest - Remote Control Review

    Created by Alzar

    Premise:
Alzar wanted to win the EGM RPG Maker contest, so he made a game about getting sucked into a TV, and then he won the EGM RPG Maker contest. Then they forgot to send him his prize.

    Review:
Remote Control is the most famous console RPG Maker game, because of it kicking all our game's asses in the EGM contest, and it's large collection of awesome minigames and fun parodies. But it's been 5 years since the game was made, does it stand the test of time?

Originality: 18 points out of a possible 20
Even today, Remote Control stands out because of the well-crafted... worlds? yeah, I'll use that word. Worlds. It also features an arcade that lets you play all the various minigames that are in the main game over and over again. Lots of RPG Maker games feature minigames, but few bother to let you replay them. even fewer have minigames WORTH playing over and over again.

    Design: 17 out of a possible 20
It's not a pretty game. The graphics aren't sloppy at all, but detail and decoration is kept to a minimum. the same can't be said about it's sound, with music and sound effects being used very well and in some pretty creative ways. The events are put together very well, and I've never found a bug despite all the elaborate (for the time) scripting.

    Writing: 20 out of a possible 20
Very good. the characters talk like real people, and are very likable. The game is genuinely funny. The writing shines the most in the "Blind Date" minigame. That dog just pooped.

    Gameplay: 19 out of a possible 20
It's still fun after all these years. The minigames in the arcade are the game's biggest draw, and you can easily lose track of time and waste an hour or so in there. Not your typical RPG Maker stuff at all.

Overall Presentation: 17 out of 20
Graphics are a bit on the boring side, but everything else is fantastic.

    Final Score: 91
Remote Control still holds up, even today. If you haven't played it yet, you need to. right now. see for yourself why everyone wishes Alzar would get off his ass and make a sequel.
