Discounted list price for my books on Lulu.com 'til the end of the year!

Update December 14th, 2010: Hit up my webstore at http://stores.lulu.com/panning_for_clouds to get a discount on my books, both digital and paperback, from now 'til the end of the year, and maybe a while longer after that!

    Facebook pages:
    Personal Page
    Something More
    Our Crumbling Ivory

    ____

That's right, I finally got the stuff finished up to post through Lulu.com, and my first book, Something More is now available at Lulu.com. Links are above.

It's a bit more expensive than I initially thought it'd be, but I hope not too expensive. I feel kinda bad asking people to pay basic retail price for real books by well-known authors, but my choices were kinda limited. You can also purchase an eBook version from the site if you'd like.

Cover design is by our very own Obright, thanks to him for helping out with the project. =D

Product description and all relevant information, including a preview of the first chapter, are all available at the website. If any of you buy one, hats off to you, I love you.

And if you'd like to support me in other ways, go do that 'Like' thing on my Facebook pages.

Again, thanks to anyone who buys it, I <3 you all.

How much profit do you make off each sale?

Couple bucks, which kinda sucks, but even through a self-publishing website everyone's gotta have their cut, I guess.

I have purchased copies of this and my other book, which'll be available soon, and the quality of the print is excellent in both cases. That was a huge concern I had early on.

Re: Hey, you can buy one of my books now.

Hokay, folks. Price has been dropped a bit, and two books are available at this moment. You can buy both and get free shipping from Lulu for spending over $20 during their summer savings event. Links are at the top of the first post.

As I said before, Obright did the cover design for Something More. Sejon did the cover design for Our Crumbling Ivory. Go support them by supporting me! Or something. More. </self-centered braggart>

I've sold a couple copies thus far, none of them from family, so that's kinda cool. I spent most of yesterday in a daze of bemused disbelief because having copies of my books for sale is an amazing feeling, regardless of the small-time feel of self-publishing. I still kinda can't believe I have professional-looking copies of my books in my house.

Thanks to all of you who've suffered the Facebook bombardment while I get pages and links set up correctly, I won't be spamming links every day or anything, so no worries about that.

So go! Buy my books! Or don't. I feel uncomfortable asking people to buy my stuff, so the option of getting a digital version from me personally for FREE is still upon the table. The other options are if you'd like to support my endeavor in some way.

Thinking maybe I should like...check it out. For quite some time I've been curious as to how you write.

Re: Hey, you can buy TWO of my books now.

For quite some time my writing was available on this forum. I only recently took down my first novel in favor of this topic. A lot of people can't or won't read on computers for various reasons, or use that as a flimsy excuse for why they won't read something. So now the option to buy a real copy is there, or buy a PDF for cheaper, or you can just contact me and I'll give you a PDF for free, cause I'm not gonna ask people to buy my books without giving them some kind of opportunity to read it first.

EDIT: First chapter previews are available via the links up top, entire first chapters, not just a few pages.

Eh. I don't mind buying it though, if it helps any.

It's up to you. Buying the books is awesome, cause I get a couple bucks per book, and it's a pretty sweet feeling knowing people are at least interested enough to pay for something I've done, or just want to show their support, but I'd rather more people read the books for free than only one person buy them because I was a stingy bastard and refused to let people read without paying. So like I said, it's up to you, I'm perfectly fine either way. The process is what I enjoy, and if the end result is that I make a little money and people enjoy what they've read, all the better.

I know what you mean. I have a few people giving me pointers on my work and like I said before, you not holding back on your analysis of my writing before really helped out. I'm way too nervous of putting my work out there like that until I learn of more ways to present my world so to speak, that and grammar. So, this isn't quite a selfless reason.

But I agree with you, the process of creating the world, fleshing out the characters and getting them to interact is the most fun though. Or at least, that's what I think you mean.

Re: Hey, you can buy TWO of my books now.

Got 'em both in the mail today. Nice covers, good binding...now it's just a matter of reading them.

As for your comment about reading on the internet, that's probably the main reason I never read your stuff in-depth before. Maybe it's an excuse or maybe it's just laziness, but I can seriously see why people made a big deal about my walls 'o text when I first got here. It's legitimately hard to read.

As for the novels, one of my housemates reads on a fairly regular basis, and he seems interested enough to give one or both a shot. A guy at work is trying to do some self-publishing via Amazon's self-publishing division (whatever that's called), and he's interested enough to have asked for some info on your books. He knew what Lulu was as well.

As for myself, I will seriously try to read one or both of them (the premise of Our Crumbling Ivory interests me moreso than Something More, to be honest), but if I do not get to it for a while, please do not take it personally. I have a bunch of books (and many, many more video games and movies) that I MEAN to get to, and just do not find the time (or make the time, to be perfectly honest) to get to.

One question, though. Why is your name listed as Rick Cook on the covers of both, but as Rick Cook Jr on the spines?

While it is a little sad that you had to go the self-publishing route, thankfully you used Lulu- great choice.

I'll buy this, when I have the money to do so.

@Perv: That was a stylistic choice for the front covers, the Jr looks unprofessional to me, but I figured I shouldn't just use Rick Cook everywhere because there's already a published author goes by that name.

Edit: if you do read I hope you enjoy. As for the other two, thanks for the interest in general. =)

I've got a bulk order here of my books, in order to pass the savings on to you folks. Don't worry, those of you who've ordered already, the price difference isn't much if you buy both. The difference is in buying one at a time, mainly.

To get one book from Lulu would run you $15 or $16 after shipping, depending on the book. To get just one from me would be about $13 after shipping. Ordering both, at least right now on Lulu, is about $25 I think with their free shipping on orders over $20, and it'll be $23 after shipping for both from me directly.

And if that's your "thing" I'll sign the copies I send your way. Just hit me up via whatever means are convenient to you (PM, email bigrickcook@hotmail.com, AIM bigrickcook, facebook.com/rick.cook.jr) and we can talk about payment options.

Thanks again to whoever's shown interest thus far, and to those of you who've ordered and may feel ripped off or whatever that I didn't do this sooner, I apologise. I had to get my finances in order before I started ordering copies of my own book to sell face-to-face or tube-to-tube if you will.

I think I paid $24 and change with the free shipping. I don't feel ripped off.

Though, it would have been nice to have purchased one from you, so I could have demanded that you sign it as Irish Bagel.
