Doing split-screen co-op in Borderlands and Split/Second multiplayer earlier in the year, probably. I'm looking forward to the mp in AC, though.

Split/Second was stuffed to the rafters with "DID you see that ****?!" and "I can't believe I pulled that off!" for me.

Mass Effect 2, XD I spent hours and days on that game, and still am enjoying it.

            I second this.

Most entertaining would be Enslaved, I liked the scenery and story, gameplay was average.

            And I'm damned if I do and I'm damned if I don't

The three games I had the most fun with this year would be White Knight Chronicles, Atelier Rorona, and Etrian Odyssey III.

White Knight Chronicles is due to the fact that it brought back memories of all the enjoyment I got out of PSO on the Dreamcast. I met a few cool girls I'm still in contact with (and yes, they ARE girls), and who I will probably play FFXIV with once it's ported to the PS3. It was fun to build my town and invite people in. Eventually, people just started to come in on their own. That was a nice feeling. The real-time/turn-based setup for battles was actually pretty decent. But mainly, I got a lot of enjoyment out of the game from chatting with some intelligent people, and playing dress-up with my (female) character. Shame that once you hit GR9 or so, there is just an ENORMOUS amount of grinding involved. Sorta why I put it down and moved on.

EOIII brought back and surpassed the feeling of accomplishment that I got from the first two games. It's actually slightly easier, but WAY more involving. The game from 2009 that challenged me the most was easily Demon's Souls. In 2010, it was EOIII. And I personally DO derive "fun" and "enjoyment" from being challenged in a video game. My manual dexterity is nothing to write home about, which is why most action games/shooters leave me cold. Yes, they ARE challenging, but for myself, for the wrong reasons.

And more recently, Atelier Rorona is quite honestly probably my favorite game so far this year. I completely understand Kire's "most fun" (or in my case, favorite) vs "best" (or GOTY). I have a similar thing with film. I have a favorite, which is completely different from "the best film I've ever seen." It goes right along with the same reasons for video games. I can say that I probably enjoy watching Heavenly Creatures more than any other film (thus, my favorite), but I would not consider it the best film I've ever seen. That honor I would bestow upon [Safe].

Same with games. This year, I'd have to say that EOIII is the best game I've played, but Atelier Rorona is the one (so far, anyway) that I've had the most fun with. I just really dig the cutesie vibe, the time-crunch for doing everything, and what would ordinarily be considered "busywork" in most other games. Most games that I tend to hold in high regard involve micromanagement on some level or another, and this game is no different. Although, mostly, you are micromanaging the time available to you to do what needs to be done, and not have all the work you've done (gathering items to later be used for alchemy) go to waste (most items have a shelf-life, as it were, and you really need to prioritize which tasks are the most important versus letting certain items continually drop in quality with each passing day/week).

So yeah, both EOIII and Atelier Rorona are sorta dream games this year for someone like myself who really enjoys the micromanagement aspects of games.

Re: What game gave you the most JOY or FUN this year? (gaming experiences encouraged)

Halo Reach probably brought me the most joy. Just having a blast with my BFF's back home. All the fantastic multiplayer modes, or just goofing off in forge world.

Neir was the freshest experience I've had in a game this year. Music, story, and characters, and none the gameplay was astounding, but it was always doing something new which I liked.

Mass Effect 2 is probably the all around best game I played this year, and my second favorite. Currently playing as an engineer on insane difficulty, and that's when the game design truly shines through, all biotics serve a purpose, and it really feels like a strategy rpg more so than a shooter.

Red Dead Redemption though is probably my favorite game this year though, while alot of the things you can do serve no point what so ever, it's a beautiful time sink. John Marston is probably the best written character in games, and it never feels quite right if you play him as an outlaw. The cinematic where he explains his up bringing really made me care about the character, and just riding my horse though a highly detailed wild west made it a unique experience for an action game. Not to mention when you cross to mexico is probably one of my favorite moments in gaming, and that multiplayer..... maaaaan~ I could go on and on why I love this game, but it's probably my favorite game this year.

Maaaan, 2010 in general was a good time to be a vidjer player.

Re: Biggie's above post...I still stand by this, but to a lesser extent than when I initially posted. There were a number of enjoyable games this year, sure, but for my tastes, I think nothing is gonna match the one-two-three punch of Journey, Portal 2 and Child of Eden next year. And if Catherine works out, and The Last Guardian does not get pushed back to 2012, it might very well be my favorite year of gaming EVAR.

Remember how psyched you were for Scribblenauts, and how it was your GOTY before it came out?

You might not wanna be doing that with Journey, lest you want a repeat performance.

Yeah, I know. I was almost as psyched for Flower, and look how that ended up for me~

But in all seriousness, I personally think thatgamecompany can do no wrong. I mean, really, what indie studio takes two full years making a game that's not their debut?

But I hear you. Thanks for the concern.

I've only played a demo of Enslaved, but it was sort of entertaining.

BioShock 2 comes after ME2 for most emotional experience. The good ending almost had me shedding a tear, and I almost NEVER do that.

I'm with you Perv, Journey looks incredible. With Portal 2, Mass effect 2, Journey, Child of Eden, Knights Contract, and Third Birthday is going to make 2011 the one of the best years for a gamer in a very long time.

On top of all the I'll probably end up buying Zelda;Skyward Sword, and F3ar too.

2010 was ALREADY one of the best years for us, ever! If 2011 can top it I'll... I'll...

I dunno. Probably enjoy many more great games. :V

Peace Walker, SMG2, Scott Pilgrim and a buncha other games were tons of fun. Nier is alright, but I still gotta beat it and FFXIII's surprisingly up there, too. dem battles, man.

                              Which brings me to~~~
