    AThirst for Steam-Punk

I'm sure I'm not the only one who's unsatisfied with the medieval setting of RPGM3. I'm starting this thread in hopes of motivating pavilionites to post any ideas they've come up with for "technology" in RPGM3 games. I'll go first:

Computers: First, I placed a sign (the big rectangular, gray one) with 2 stone pillars/tables (those tall things about the height of the adventurer graphic) next to the sign, both of them polaced at an angle facing inwards. next, I placed an event with a treasure box graphics in front of the sign. By placing message displays to show information, I created the "clickety click" noise of a keyboard.and since the sign has incomprihensible gibberish on it, that can be used as info on the "screen"

Check out Post #6. Pagerron's Test Facility.
I believe a member named Ivan something (sorry, can't remember his name) has been working on a futuristic game using RM3 for quite some time now.

With a little grit and determination, I suppose it's possible to make a high tech game with RM3.

      WOW!

How did he pull off the spaceship? and the spooky Cloud thing? And the Staircase? and the "vertically move up in the air" thing?

I believe the spaceship was made using coffins, and the "cloud" is the Otherworldy weather effect. The staircase looks like quarrystones to me. I have no clue about how he accomplished the vertical movement.

If only he was still around. Then I could just ask him.

He's on quite often, he just doesn't post much though. Try PM'ing him about it.

Or, you can download the map and see for yourself.

Having played and analyzed the map during judging, I can attest that most of what Seraph mentioned is correct. I think he used clever "swaps" in terrain levels and invisible events, after placing the stuff you actually see, to create the staircase, spaceship, etc.

              It really was quite amazing.

Unfortunately I have no means of downloading the files and playing them, so I just based what I said off of what I read in the thread, and what I could see in the pictures.

I would like to know how he did the vertical movement as well.

Nah, I meant nerd_god should download it, since he was sounding desperate to know how it was done.

The vertical movement, I think, is the one that's still a mystery to all but Page. Um, unless he posted it in the Tips and Tricks thread? I forget whether that one appeared there.

It's a glitch he took advantage of. I don't know the exact details, but I could figure it out. It has to do with the buildings. You make the event with a movement, then you change the house the event is in. The difference of the interior changes how the movement works. Again, I don't know the exact details. It would take some experimenting.

Nah, you don't have to mess with the terrain. You just lower or raise the events/decrotives. You can only do this on maps though. If you look at the ground the ship is above it is completely flat. That's because an object's hight that it is raised is determined by the ground too. If it was random elevations it would be harder to match up the coffins giving it the ship effect.

                      Hey guys,

I just wanted to share about the vertical movement event.

                      -----Moving Vertically------

Create a town using a Sample Map “Shaw”

                      Go to the layout editor

Create a building in Shaw using the “Platform” graphic – New Room 01

                      Go to the layout editor

In New Room 01, create a “button” event

In that event program the game to warp you to the point at the bottom of the staircase inside of New Room 01

Go back to the layout editor

In Shaw change New Room 01’s building style from “Platform” to “Mansion 1”

                      Go back to layout editor

In New Room 01, go to New Event 01 and edit the warp location by moving it just south of the carpet covering the floor. Do not move the warp location to the right or to the left, just down.

                      Go back to layout editor

In Shaw change New Room 01’s building style from “Mansion 1” to “Platform”

                      Now playtest

What will end up happening is that the event in New Room 01 will warp you just south of the staircase to a supposedly inaccessible area. The game won’t know what to do and you float slowly off the screen.

You will be forever stuck here if you’re not careful to program another event to change your location after a certain period of time or something though. That’s the way that I got around it in “Test Facility”

Anyway, I hope that makes sense.

                        Re: AThirst for Steam-Punk

I've edited yesterday's message to show the way to get the glitch to work.

Also, as previously mentioned, Ivan Rosenguard's posts in his game forum might be inspiring. I know they were to me. He hasn't posted there in about a year though, so he probably isn't around anymore, but anyway...

                        Check it out. http://www.pavilionboards.com/forum/...play.php?f=107

JPS has also made some headway in trying to do things that aren't medieval in his game. You may want to check his posts out as well or send him a PM. I don't believe that he's working on the Anubis Conflict anymore, but you should check with him about that.

Whoa, sorry for bumping a one-month-old topic, but I never saw that post of yours explaining the glitch, Pagerron... and I was extremely curious, how the heck did you either run into that or logically figure out it would happen? It's one obscure little set of things to do! Amazing!
