    Re: Brain Transplant

Actually, some good discussion could be had with these ideas. I'm sure all you have seen the trailers to "The Island." I'm pretty sure that movie revolves around this. Does anyone remember that short story that Ronetek made? Does he even come here anymore? Anyway, it was about clones and people doing brain transplants to ensure their immortality. Are the old board archives accessible?

You cannot do a brain transplant. It's biologically impossible.

Actually, I had a game idea that involved clones and memory transplants (not brain transplants)... and I'm making it a book instead. Terr and Spoom and a few others probably remember me talking about it a long time ago.

                Re: Brain Transplant

In order to transplant an organ, the donor and receiveer have to have the same blood type. If they are a match, after transplantation, the receiver will be placed on *lots* of immunosupressives to make sure that their body does not reject this new organ. They will have to be on these for the rest of their lives and even when everything is "perfect" as far as the matching goes and they take their meds, people reject transplanted organs all the time. Imagine what that would be like with a transplanted brain.

What makes it impossible (not to mention a bit unethical) is that your brain and nervous system is made up of white and grey matter. They are both the same thing except that white matter is myelinated. Its covered in a sheath that protects and insulates the nervous tissue and has *some* regenerative capabilities. Grey matter is non-myelinated and unregenerative. Your brain is mostly grey matter with some white matter throughout. Your spinal cord is grey with your peripheral nerves being white. So cutting nerver tissue is pretty much a bad thing because the chances of if regenerating are slim to none. But say you were able to do everything perfect and get every nerve intact, well, your brain produces a lot of hormones and chemicals and not every body is the same as far as nerve function so it would have no idea what to do and how to do it andimgoingtoshutupnow.

oh and heres an interesting link:

That'd be cool if they could transplant a drug addicted crime kingpin's brain into a cyborg ala Robocop 2.

Kain is the single coolest robot to come out of north america.

And mabye one day brain transplants will be possible. Or just download my brain into a computer. They actually estimate that by 2050 it could be possible, if technology keeps increasing at the rate it is.

But what if you downloaded your brain, but your still concious in your own body! And its just a copy of your mind in the computer! That would suck, cause you'd still die and everything, but your mind would live on.

                              Yep, way better than ED-209.

Remember how ED cried when he stumbled down that flight of stairs?
