To be fair, the 4chan link wasn't working for me... but if you ask me, he killed in the name of pure nihilistic rage--there was no "champion of a cause." He can't look you in the eye and tell you that any of his victims were against 4chan or whatever it was. He's no martyr, he's a horrible monster killing in the name of nihilism.
one of the people killed was a holocaust survivor.
i'm not sure how that makes it "more wrong", but it does. that kind of person can make you not belive in god and hope beyond hope that there is one at the same time. JUST SO HE BURNS.
On my local news just now they were talking about how he's had behavioral problems for a long time. Had one of his former teachers talking about how she didn't like to leave him around the other students without supervision and several students were afraid of him. He wrote some extremely violent one act play for an English Assignment. She'd requested he be put in counseling. Basically, he was a ticking time bomb.
They also talked about all the schools across the country that got bomb threats today. If I had any faith in the human race it'd be significantly shaken.

One of the reasons I can't help but believe. It brings me great comfort knowing that monsters like this guy are receiving some sort of eternal torture.
Though personally, I'd have liked him to have been found alive so he could rot at the bottom of the world's worst dungeon for a lifetime before sending him over to the afterlife.
In the beginning the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and is widely considered as a bad move.

a flaw, though:
if he asked for forgiveness for killing all those people, he's in the clear.
thetruecoolness--But yeah, all it takes is one crazy guy who's mad at the world,
or just has some blood lust. Of course had the guy done this on a battlefield he would be a hero.
So interesting how quickly our opinions on murder change.
Oh puh-lease! That has nothing to do with it. In war, you are fighting AGAINST someone, FOR somthing. This was just senseless killing. Stop trying to sound intelligent. Better men and authors such as Kurt Vonnegut have already gotten to that one before you, and in a completely different context. Do me a favor: Kiss my ass.
Loki--I wonder how long until the media starts looking for scapegoats.
HAY GUYS I BET HE PLAYED VIDEOGAMES AND LISTENED TO MUSIC
.
That's obligatory, and in the end, innocuous as well. And it really isn't the media, its people in general. They don't want to believe that a human can become so twisted...at least when it isn't an advatageous notion.
Riotsword--Yeah. Absolutely horrible. Worse than the Civil War or Revolutionary War for sure.
I believe the same reply I gave thetruecoolness also applies here.
Riotsword--If you distracted him, the people you're with might be fine. You, on the other hand,
might just get a lead salad. That's on the border between heroism and stupidity.
Heroism and stupidity go hand-in-hand, my good man. In fact, stupidity and insanity are often associated with the act of going against what is a reasonable and self-preserving response. Acts of heroism are such acts. They go against the very core of human nature. And yet, there are such selfless acts. Humans are able to do such things because they have something within them that isn't suspect to those chemicals and hormones that makes us do the things that are within our true nature. Call it what you will, a soul, a spirit, the Fruedian concept of the Superego, it still exists. And it causes us to be irrational.
EvilNixon666-Here in the US, we can still get massive amounts of guns and ammo and shoot other people. Until that changes,
you'll see this kind of thing happen again and again.
Until human beings stop being human beings, you'll see this kind of thing happen again and again. Anger and self-loathing are natural to us. So is the act of eliminating that which makes us unhappy. So is conflict and destruction. Whether that be others or even ourselves. Trust me, this kid picked on. (Well, I shouldn't say kid, he was older than I.)That's not to say, however, that he should be pitied. Just the opposite. Were this young man still alive, I would have a few words to say to him:
This young man was in a state of utter self-hatred, which, of course, is just another form of self-righteousness. Another form of the notion that the whole damned world revolves around you. Another part of our animal-human nature, propetuated by American culture. A person in this state cares not for the toils and heartaches of the world and the rest of its people, because he's to self-absorbed in his own inner-termoil. What does he care if a few people die because he's depressed. A person in that state doesn't care if he or anyone else lives or dies. And that is the most dangerous state of mind of all.
I know because I used to be much the same way. But I grew up, QUICK. And I learned that I wasn't the center of the universe, and nobody HAS to care about my feelings and most people WON'T. I'm out there now trying to get my life to a point were I can make at least a few people happier. If I can do that, If I can show the love of mankind (and, though many of you may not agree, the love of God) to someone, then I've succeeded as a human being. I don't have time for self-loathing anymore.
Karr Lord of Chaos--heres a question. why are these happening so much lately? just recently a
guy killed some employees when he got fired. if we really want to prevent these kinds of senseless
tragity we must ask ourselves why this is happening and what can we do to stop this trend
from continuing.
having emergency plans are obviously not enough.
They've always been happening. Read what I posted above. You read it? Good. It isn't like any of this is new. In the entire history of our existence, human nature; the collective schema of human beings, has not changed AT ALL. What HAS changed, however, is the tools with which we carry out the action brought on by our nature. In the days of swords and spears, never could so much destruction be brought on by a single person. But such things DID happen.
And on the issue of preventing such acts, I can only call complete bull****. You can't prevent these things from happening. If you're working at the front counter at McDonalds and somebody walks in with a 9mm and points it at you with the intent of shooting you, you're dead. There could be no way to prevent it. Our human ingenuity bites us in the ass here: Theres always a way around the rules, and if someone is hell bent on killing someone else, they'll find it.
In fact, this whole notion that we can prevent things from happening is part of the damn problem. How bad do you think certain minorities and cliques were treated after Columbine? Worse than ever! Why? Because after Columbine people became so concerned about profiling these "potential murderers" before they could commit a crime that they probable wouldn't commit. The whole idea is ludichrious anyhow. The concept of criminal profiler
is not to profile potential criminals so they can stop them before they commit a crime, that's immoral. They exist to profile a criminal that has commited a crime so that they can be punished accordingly.

Not so much nihilism as a complete sense of self absorption and an utter sense of apathy for the world. All of these school shooters are self-depressed ninnies.
Maijo--They better not take down 4chan because of this.
Lemme get this straight: 33 people died and 28 are injured, and you're concerned about a website? I know I wouldn't put it past them, and for god sakes it would completely asinine, an a cheap scapegoat, but c'mon!
LeChuck--They also talked about all the schools across the country that got bomb threats today.
If I had any faith
in the human race it'd be significantly shaken.
Learn to put faith in the individual. Always remember that the world is full of heartless bastards, nihilistic wackos, and self-absorbed lunatics, but never forsake the beauty of one person willing to do the right thing. What else do we have to believe in?
SirTmagus--I lost faith a long, long, long time ago. I'm sad but I'm not surprised.
Here here! I don't think I've wholheartedly agreed with anyone but you, Magus. I may still be young, but I wouldn't be suprised if some asshole jumped me and shot me at my computer desk before I finished typing this.
[Edit: I'd just like to ad something on the issue of "Prevention" in that I do think that the idea that we can preven horrible things from happening has made us all pussies. Everyon'e so afraid to die. When true danger strikes, we hide, unable to fight because we've worked so hard to keep from ever having to. I hate this world.]

I just like to say that I'm a Christian and that I don't think it works like that, Valky. There still must be some form of atonement. And I don't think suicide cuts it. Nor do I thing, given what I already posted, that he even felt sorry. He's burning/rotting/watching The View/whatever the do in Hell, trust me.
