    Editing user reviews

I think it would be cool if we could edit user reviews.

Like, for example, if someone put a spoiler inside a review, and then later decided that spoiling the plot of someone's game is sort of stupid and mean. If that happened, they wouldn't be able to take it out!

Also for typos and stuff, it'd be nice.

    OKAY THANKS.

If you made a mistake, PM an admin and ask them to make the changes for you.
Did you want to edit your review?

yeah, it says right in the guidelines why people won't be allowed to edit them.

        Oh, right.

But still, that seems like a precaution that's well-intended, but ultimately is more detrimental to the reviews than beneficial.

If you don't allow edits, yes, you eliminate the small chance of someone sabotoging their own review. But it comes at the cost of
        • More typos in reviews. Even when proofreading, it's inevitable. I often have multiple edits to a single post.
        • More regular work for moderators. They must read reviewer requests and make appropriate changes.
        • More work for reviewers. They must send a request to have any edits made, along with justification, instead of simply making the edits themselves. They also must sit and wait for changes to be made.
        • Less flexibility in reviews. If a reviewer discovers something about the game that affects their opinion of it, they cannot simply edit their scores. It'd be nice to have the ability to make incremental changes to a review without having to first justify, and then wait for a moderator to approve the edits.

If these seem like sacrifices worth taking to protect against the possiblity of sabotage, so be it. But in my opinion, they're not. I just can't imagine someone destroying their own work to take down the Pavilion. We're not that controversial. And if it happened, delete and it's done.

Edit: See, for example here, I edited "I'd" to "It'd". It took me 5 seconds. If that was in my review, I'd have to send a request to a mod, saying "HEY I'M AN IDIOT CAN YOU CHANGE I'D TO IT'D? IT'S IN THE SECOND TO LAST PARAGRAPH. OKAY THANKS." and then they'd have to go ahead and find it and make the change when they got around to it. Or more likely, I'd say "screw it" and the typo would remain.

If it took you 5 seconds to edit your post then it'd just take 5 seconds to fire of a PM to someone on the staff and it'd just take 5 seconds for them to edit it.

Actually, it took me about 3-4 minutes to:
              • copy the link to the review I wanted changed,
              • copy the paragraph within the review I wanted changed, and
              • describe what changes I wanted made.

Then I sent a PM to someone on staff. That was over 45 minutes ago (9:31 AM), and they have either not yet seen it or not made the change.

              TOASTY.

Oh, I see what happened. Thanks for being quick on the fix, but this is a perfect example of what I'm talking about. There was some miscommunication here, as there were actually two changes to be made:

                  I'd like this paragraph:

You then wander around in a forest, save some girl from a demon, go to the girl's hometown of WIND KINGDOM, and wander some more until you find her dead dad. (<-- spoiler)

                  Changed to this:

You then wander around in a forest, save some girl from a demon, go to the girl's hometown of WIND KINGDOM, and wander some more until you find her dad.

                  (i.e. remove "dead", remove "(<--spoiler)".)

                  Thaaaaaank youuuuuu.

The same thing could have happened for a common typo or any other change, simpleman.

Yeah in a random post. If I did a review I'd actually lookover what I'd written.
